Hello everyone, I'm so excited to join this week's topics. I chose the question "They say there's a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow... What does that mean to you and have you ever applied that ethos/concept to your own life?" because I have a good answer for it. It felt so familiar when I read it.
The first pot of gold
I was born and grew up in Van, a small city in the east of Turkey. I studied very hard for the university exam. There are lots of good universities in Istanbul (the biggest city of Turkey), and I won a place at one of them: Marmara University, Economics department. I was so lucky. But I had no idea about English, and all my courses were only in English. Luckily, I liked my economics department so much, and during that time I learned English as well. That was one of the best parts of my life.
The fool's gold
The second part is about my disappointment. After graduating from university, I started to work at a think tank as a research assistant in the economy/energy department. I was so happy. Every year I learned many things and met a lot of strong people. I worked there for about 5 years, and at the end, I was unfairly terminated from my job. Everything and everyone I trusted suddenly disappeared. That was my fool's gold. At the end of the day, I was alone.
My true gold
My true gold is trying to improve myself, and it has two parts.
The first one is the energy sector. I like to follow the news about the energy market in the world and in Turkey. I especially want to learn about the improvements in renewable energy. This resource is clean, and all countries need it. For example, Turkey has almost no fossil fuels, so we import energy from other countries and pay very high bills. But the sun and the wind are cheaper. In the last 10 years, most countries have invested in this sector, and that makes me happy. That is why my motto on Ecency is "Sustainable Energy Supporter" :)
The second one is my online store on Etsy. I sell metal wall decor there. I am my own boss. Okay, I don't have many sales (only 88 pieces in 2.5 years), but I am happy when I work on it. I'm happy that I can work without being tied to one place while spending time with my family.
At the en of the day, I realized the real gold for me it is not big prize at the end of the rainbow, but the happy moment I live along the way.
And this is my question is for you: What about you? What is inside your pot of gold and did you find it where you expected?
