As many of you already know, I sell metal wall decor through my online store. Most of the time, customers only see the final product. They see a finished wall decoration in a nice room, choose the size and color they want, and place an order. But before a product reaches that final stage, there is another side of the work that is usually hidden. A few days ago, I visited the production place I work with, and I thought it would be nice to show you a small part of this process.

The company I work with actually produces much bigger and more complex metal products than mine. They work with different kinds of metal projects, including railings, stairs, decorative metal pieces and many custom designs. They also have CNC controlled cutting systems and large laser cutting machines. This is the part that is especially important for my business. A large metal sheet is placed on the machine bed, the design file is prepared, and the machine cuts the requested shape from the metal. It can be a very simple shape or something with much more detail.

From a Digital File to a Real Product
One of the things I like most about working this way is that I do not need to keep large amounts of stock. I work mainly with a made to order system. When a customer places an order, I send the correct graphic file and production details. Then the product is prepared according to that order. For a small online business, this system is very useful because I can offer different sizes and designs without filling a warehouse with finished products.

It also gives me a lot of freedom when a customer asks for something special. Sometimes a customer wants a different size. Sometimes they want a small change in an existing design. Sometimes we start with a completely new idea. If the design can be drawn correctly and prepared as a cutting file, there is usually a way to produce it. Of course, we always have to think about the strength of the metal, the small details and whether the final product will be practical, but the possibilities are quite wide.

This time, I went there because I needed to pick up an oval metal frame. The order was a little urgent, so instead of waiting for the normal process, I decided to go and collect it myself. The oval frame in the photos looks very simple, but even a simple product starts with an exact digital shape. The machine follows that shape and cuts it from the metal sheet. When I held the freshly cut frame in my hands, I thought it was a nice moment to photograph. Usually I see my products when they are finished, painted and ready for the customer. Seeing the raw metal form always feels different.

While I was there, I also took some photos of the larger production area. You can see the large cutting table where metal sheets are placed. You can also see different decorative metal pieces around the workshop. Some are much more detailed than the products I normally sell. There are curved lines, flowers and traditional decorative patterns. Looking at them always reminds me how flexible metal can actually be. At first it looks cold and hard, but with the right design and machines, it can become something very decorative.

Bunlara baktığımda metalin aslında ne kadar esnek bir malzeme olabileceğini tekrar düşünüyorum. İlk bakışta soğuk ve sert bir malzeme gibi görünüyor ama doğru tasarım ve doğru makinelerle oldukça dekoratif bir ürüne dönüşebiliyor.
Why I Like Made to Order Production
For me, one of the biggest advantages is being able to test new ideas without producing many pieces first. I can create a new design, prepare the visual for my store and produce the actual item when an order comes in. This makes it easier to try different styles and understand what customers really like. If a design becomes popular, we can produce it again. If a customer needs a special version, we can work on that too.

Of course, online customers usually do not see this part. They see something like the final photo with the oval frames on the wall. A clean room, simple colors and a finished decoration. But behind that image there are measurements, drawings, metal sheets, machines, cutting, cleaning, painting, packaging and finally shipping. I think seeing the production side makes the final product a little more meaningful.
Tabii online müşteriler genellikle işin bu tarafını görmüyor. Onlar son fotoğraftaki gibi duvarda duran oval çerçeveleri görüyor. Sade bir oda, uyumlu renkler ve bitmiş bir dekor. I feel lucky to work with a production place where both simple and very detailed custom work is possible. It allows me to say yes to many different customer ideas. Sometimes I receive a request and think, “Can we really make this?” Then we prepare the drawing, talk about the details and usually find a solution. That is probably one of my favorite parts of this business.
Hem sade hem de çok detaylı özel üretimlerin yapılabildiği bir yerle çalıştığım için kendimi şanslı hissediyorum. Bu sayede müşterilerden gelen birçok farklı fikre evet diyebiliyorum. So this time I wanted to share something different with you. Not only the beautiful final product on the wall, but also a little part of where it begins. A large metal sheet, a digital drawing, a powerful machine and finally a simple oval frame in my hands. It is a small look behind the scenes of my online store, and I hope you enjoyed seeing this side of the process too.
