Viral spots are always popular destinations; weekends, in particular, draw huge crowds, leading to long lines of people waiting to get in.
Last weekend afternoon, I invited my husband to relax by the beach. I really love the sea breeze, so being there is the perfect way to relieve stress and enjoy dinner at the same time. While last time I chose Lancok Beach—where the food is always delicious—this time I ventured further out to Jomblang Beach in Lhokseumawe. However, that afternoon I happened to be visiting my relative, so the idea of heading to the beach for dinner seemed like a perfect alternative.
Recently, a spot with a beautiful view and delicious food went viral on social media. Based on the photos I saw on my phone, without a second thought, I immediately took my husband there for dinner.
The spot is located on one of the beaches in Ujong Blang, Lhokseumawe. I chose a viral spot known as Pondok Empat Dara. The place is very cozy and aesthetically pleasing. It’s perched above the beach, with the ocean waves crashing below. In fact, the area below has become a relaxing spot where many people come to play on the beach.
When I got there, I have to admit the place was nice, but it was very crowded, so I didn’t really get the chance to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. Maybe it was because it was the weekend, so there were quite a lot of visitors. Without thinking twice, I ordered a few items after the server handed me the menu.
I didn’t order many dishes—just Indomie with scrambled eggs, fried rice with eggs, and one serving of Aceh-style rujak. As for drinks, my husband ordered coconut juice, and since I still had a full bottle of mineral water, I didn’t order anything to drink.
Even though the place was crowded, the orders arrived fairly quickly—three dishes came out right away: Indomie with egg, Aceh-style rujak, and coconut juice.
Indomie with Eggs Ceplok
Without a second thought, I immediately took a bite of the Indomie with egg I’d just ordered, and the taste truly exceeded my expectations. It tasted pretty ordinary; there wasn’t much seasoning, even though I usually see in their promotional videos that the noodles are full of flavor. And the seasoning was just right—just like my favorite stir-fried noodles, with plenty of seasoning.
The noodles still didn’t seem to have absorbed the sauce—maybe the sauce was too watery and there wasn’t enough of it. I could only see a few pieces of green mustard greens, and the sauce was barely visible. The taste wasn’t anything special—I was pretty disappointed, especially since I was really hungry—but oh well.
Just the thought that the instant noodles wouldn’t be good had already left me a little disappointed from the start, so I just hoped the other dishes wouldn’t be a letdown. As for the price, the egg noodles were still pretty cheap at around IDR 15,000.
Aceh-Style Rujak
My husband ordered the rujak and tried it; he said it was delicious—it had a full variety of fruits, and the seasoning really came through. I was curious, so I took a bite right away, and yeah, it really was delicious.
The seasoning and fruit pieces in the rujak were absolutely perfect, just like the rujak I usually buy from my regular vendor. The sweet and spicy flavors of the rujak really came through, and the fruit pieces provided incredible freshness.
The selection of fruit is very extensive—there’s papaya, mango, Water apple, cucumber, and even pineapple. I love how flavorful the sauce is, and there are plenty of peanuts, too. It’s also quite affordable—just IDR 10,000 per serving.
Coconut Juice
Speaking of this drink, it actually made me laugh; my husband really does love young coconuts. However, he’d never tried young coconut juice before. At first, I’d warned him that young coconut juice was just like the coconut milk I usually use for cooking vegetables.
He didn’t believe me, so he ordered it right away. As soon as the drink arrived and he tasted it, he admitted that it tasted like coconut milk with extra coconut. Since it’s called juice, the coconut is blended—the process is the same as making coconut milk. The difference, though, is that this coconut is younger. Even so, he liked it and finished the whole thing. Coconut juice is indeed rich in flavor and delicious to drink; especially when made with pure coconut water, it tastes even better. The price is reasonable in my opinion—one glass costs IDR 15,000.
Fried Rice with Sunny-Side-Up Egg
The last order arrived: red fried rice with a sunny-side-up egg. This is my husband’s favorite—he often orders fried rice with an egg like this because he says it’s delicious. The portion isn’t very large; it might be enough for a woman, but for my husband, who usually eats a lot, it’s very small.
The fried rice wasn’t anything special—it didn’t fill him up—and he said it was too simple; it didn’t even have celery in it. Even though the dish came complete with crackers and cucumber.
I tried a spoonful—it tasted just right to me. But, well, everyone’s taste is different. And I think it’s because the portion was so small. The price is still quite affordable—only IDR 15,000 for a serving of fried rice.
After enjoying various dishes, we got up, and I asked him to take a few pictures of me. Even though he still looked unhappy with the meal because he wasn’t full at all, I told him we’d grab a snack on the way home.
The setting was perfect for photos, so I took a few of myself, and my husband snapped some great shots—I think these are perfect for posting.
