I have often visited this region, but this weekend I focused on a small local hamlet that might easily go unnoticed unless you know it exists or happen to pass by. The hamlet is called "Stazione" (Station)—named because it sits right next to the Montale-Agliana railway station. It is a small provincial station that connects the Montale and Agliana areas via bus and links them by train to Florence, Viareggio, and Prato; in short, it is small but convenient. The surrounding hamlet actually sprang up in the 1950s; the station was essential because many residents of Montale and Agliana worked elsewhere—not just in nearby factories—and it served the entire local population, leading to the construction of houses and apartment buildings around it. Geographically, the hamlet lies within the municipality of Montale but sits right on the border with the neighboring municipality of Agliana. In the past, like most places in the area, it was a rural, farming community; the few settlements that existed were clustered around the Bure—a small stream and tributary of the Ombrone, Pistoia’s main river. Over time, numerous rural farming communities grew up along this stream, drawing water from it to irrigate their fields.

While the village consists largely of houses and factories, a portion of it retains a rural feel; here and there, you can spot long stretches of cultivated or abandoned fields, small greenhouses, uncultivated land, and patches of greenery—it is wonderful that these fields still exist. It is a truly peaceful, quiet hamlet—a place for a leisurely walk along the river or among the houses, with little traffic and a handful of small local businesses, including essentials like a pharmacy and food shops. Antiguamente, el pueblo llevaba el nombre de Santa Lucía, pero tras la llegada de la estación de tren, todos empezaron a llamarlo «Stazione» (Estación), nombre que acabó por imponerse. Hoy en día, es una pequeña localidad situada junto al río, caracterizada por casas unifamiliares sencillas y bloques de apartamentos de arquitectura austera, además de algunas fábricas —unas aún en activo y otras abandonadas hace tiempo—. También hay grupos de viviendas más coloridas, en su mayoría pequeñas casas adosadas. Aunque el pueblo se compone principalmente de casas y fábricas, una parte conserva un aire rural; aquí y allá se pueden ver extensos campos cultivados o abandonados, pequeños invernaderos, terrenos sin labrar y zonas verdes: es maravilloso que estos campos aún perduren. Es un lugar verdaderamente tranquilo y sosegado, ideal para pasear sin prisas junto al río o entre las casas, con poco tráfico y algunos pequeños comercios locales, incluidos servicios básicos como una farmacia y tiendas de alimentación.
