Imagine I get banned from eating meat today for the rest of my life, not because my health doesn't permit it any longer and not because I cannot afford it, and yet, people around me will still be allowed to eat meat. Is this something I can cope with?

Well, if I should be sincere, I will tell you that finding myself breaking the ban is very possible. Personally I can be very self-disciplined in certain things, especially when it's health matters, but there are things that no matter how I claim to be strong with, you will soon realize that I am faking it. One of those is denying me meat, whereas I am a top meat lover. What's that thing that could lead to anyone banning me from eating meat and getting my body nourished with protein? Could it be culture or religion or being a vegan? Nay, I don't think I can resist not eating meat because of that.

It's difficult, especially having people around me eat meat while I abstain. You know, my mom visited my home the other time, and while we enjoyed varieties of food together as a family, she didn't enjoy all of that with us.

Whenever we prepare yam with egg sauce, she will request for water yam instead; if we prepare rice and veggies, she will eat only veggies, and the list goes on, because she has been on a diet and diligently following her doctor's instructions to combat the diabetes she is dealing with. I respect her a lot and at the same time feel bad that she can't eat or drink what she craves but watches us eat while she throw away her face, lol, all because she is fighting for her life. That's quite understandable.

If I were to be in her shoes, God forbid that I suffer diabetes anyway, but I would also strive to live by abstaining from good or kind of drinks that could put my health in danger. My husband also was advised by his doctor to stay away from red meat for some reason but stick with white meat; that's even better. But when it comes to banning me from eating meat for life and it's not for health-related reasons, I bet I wouldn't obey the rules every day. Maybe the banner should get ready to punish me, lol.

Just imagine having my family seated at the dining table, devouring chicken, and I will just be watching? Oh no, that's the hard part of it. It's good to serve this kind of punishment in a group, not only me, abeg, lol. Imagine having assorted meat inside Egusi soup, and mine will now come with plain soup? That's not even fun to imagine, and I hope nothing will make me stop enjoying my favorite kinds of meat.

Overall, I think I could live without meat for the rest of my life if it's strictly related to my health. Not that it's something so easy to do, but because whatever needs to protect us against harm tomorrow is worth paying attention to.

This is my response to the #Hive Learners prompt on the topic titled, NO MORE MEAT.
