I surprisingly did rather well on a recent Chaos Legion only tournaments as I found myself in second place. It hasn't been since the Beta days, well before Untamed was released, that I found myself a such a high placement. It has been welcomed as I feel that tournaments are the best place to continue to accumulate SPS. This is important as the SPS in my wallet has actually diminished since the end of the AirDrop given my needed purchases for Riftwatchers, Nodes, and Splinterfest. This has left me starving for more SPS.
Battling is surely the best way to get SPS and while I have not be lucky enough to get a "jackpot" chest full of SPS, the chance to do so by playing keeps it exciting. However, just as I am feeling more competitive, I am getting the feeling of some increase competitiveness from outside help. I think the bots are now dominating the gameplay and while I am generally ok with it; seeing very good bots has me concerned around the tournaments and brawl space.
I believe eSports is an exciting opportunity for the game but with bots in the mix, it may be a long road to travel to get interests from other communities to come in and participated. Sponsors are unlikely to give it a try either if bots are a common practice in the ecosystem. Even Brawls are seemingly increasing the population of bots playing given now the SPS rewards there too. I do believe that bots playing makes us a human players better but they do have an advantage of not facing pressure and fatigue for some of these tournaments and I would think that it will not be sustainable in the long term. Some balance needs to be found for the best interests of all parties involved in the ecosystem.
