Este pequeรฑo paraรญso no fue casualidad: mi padre lo eligiรณ asรญ, buscando quizรกs un refugio verde, y hoy mรกs que nunca agradezco esa decisiรณn.

The green oasis in which my happiness dwells

alt

I live in a city that sometimes rests upon the bustle and the hot asphalt, often lulled to sleep by the murmur of hurried vehicles but as I cross the threshold of my home, the world changes and Iโ€™m greeted by a generous patio filled with trees and fruit, and that refreshing welcome is incomparable on these warm, exhausting days.

This little paradise was no accident: my father chose it this way, perhaps seeking a green refuge, and today more than ever, Iโ€™m grateful for that decision. Thereโ€™s something deeply healing about being surrounded by nature. Itโ€™s not just the clean air, nor the songs of the birds nesting furtively among the branches, nor even the cool shade on sweltering days. Itโ€™s more than that, itโ€™s the feeling that time stands still, that stress dissolves among the leaves. When I close my eyes and take a deep breath, the sweet scent of ripe guavas and the tangy perfume of starfruit blossoms carry me far away. The noise of the city fades.

alt

alt

I say my patio is, more or less, my own personal forestโ€ฆ Do you remember the enchanted forests where princesses got lost? Well, mine is quite similar, except the magic and enchantment arenโ€™t in spells, but in the starfruit tree with its star-shaped fruits hanging like crystal ornaments. The magic also lies in the avocados, green, towering sentinels, and in the guavas that, even when small, hint at the sweetness theyโ€™ll one day hold.

alt

alt

My father always said that a house without trees is like a body without a soul, and when he chose this one among others, he did so with the future in mind: summers shared under the shade, mango harvests, breakfasts with freshly picked fruit. Itโ€™s true that at first, I didnโ€™t understand, but today Iโ€™m grateful for that choice.

You see, this patio isnโ€™t just a green space, itโ€™s also a legacy. Itโ€™s the place where I learned to distinguish the scent of each flower, where I watched plants grow from seeds into strong trees. Itโ€™s a reminder that even amid urbanization, nature persists, endures, and gifts us its fruits.

alt

alt

You donโ€™t have to live in the countryside to feel that connection with the earth. All you need is a green corner, a tree that casts shade, and a plant that blooms unhurriedly. Amid everything, thereโ€™s that simple yet genuine happiness of sitting on the terrace eating fruit freshly plucked from the tree, knowing that this small luxury is, in truth, a treasure.

alt

Sometimes, I put my phone far away and go to the patio to feel that connection with nature, one we unwittingly lose to the relentless advance of a society ruled by screens and concrete. In those moments, I remember that happiness isnโ€™t always found in grand things, but in the authentic: the taste of fruit, the whisper of wind through leaves, and the peace of knowing that at the end of the day, a little piece of paradise awaits me at home.

alt

So today, I celebrate this oasis. I celebrate the trees my father planted with foresight, the breakfasts with mango juice, and having this green corner where my happiness rests.
