Hello friends, today I’m sharing this small traditional collage I made in my sketchbook. Practically all the elements, except for the printed fragment, were crafted by me. This collage is part of the 28 Bugs challenge, a challenge I’m doing and really enjoying. Almost all the challenges I’ve completed, all the bugs and insects, I’ve drawn digitally, or at least most of them. That’s why returning to the sketchbook and drawing with pencil and paper felt like a necessary change.
Hola amigos, hoy les comparto este pequeño collage tradicional que hice en mi sketchbook. Prácticamente todos los elementos, a excepción del fragmento impreso, fueron confeccionados por mí. Este collage forma parte del reto de dibujar 28 Bugs, un reto que estoy haciendo y con el que me estoy divirtiendo mucho. Casi todos los retos que he realizado, todos los bichos e insectos, los he hecho en dibujo digital, o al menos la mayoría. Por eso regresar al sketchbook y dibujar con lápiz y papel se sintió como un cambio necesario.

@artofkylin For the collage, I started by using a fragment of a page from an old encyclopedia no longer in use. I tore it with my hands and glued it to the center of the sketchbook page. Then I added some drawings made on yellow post-its: one of an insect’s torn wing and another of a group of three mushrooms. I want the main theme of the collage to be nature. Next, I cut some fragments of white paper in zigzag shapes, colored them with markers, and glued them in the blank spaces. On one of them, I drew half of a monarch butterfly’s wing. I also added some words and phrases in my cursive handwriting.
Para el collage comencé utilizando un fragmento de una hoja de una vieja enciclopedia en desuso. Esta hoja la rasgué con mis manos y la pegué en el centro de la hoja del sketchbook. Seguido agregué algunos dibujos hechos en post-it amarillos: uno de un ala arrancada a un insecto y otro de un grupo de tres hongos. Quiero que el tema principal del collage sea la naturaleza. Luego recorté algunos fragmentos de papel blanco en zigzag con formas variadas, los coloreé con marcador y los pegué en los espacios en blanco. En uno de ellos dibujé la mitad del ala de una mariposa monarca. También agregué algunas palabras y frases con mi letra corrida.
I drew a small wildflower, cut it out, and glued it, and did the same with the sketch of a beetle that I colored with a blue pencil. I glued the whole composition in place. I really enjoyed making this collage and returning to traditional work. Maybe soon I’ll make another one, since it gave my sketchbook a different air compared to the daily practices I usually do.
Dibujé una pequeña flor silvestre, la recorté y la pegué, e hice lo mismo con el boceto de un escarabajo que coloreé con lápiz de color azul. Pegué toda la composición en su sitio. Me gustó mucho realizar este collage y regresar a lo tradicional. Quizás dentro de poco vuelva a hacer otro, ya que le dio a mi sketchbook un aire distinto a las prácticas diarias que hago.
