Hello, this is my drawing of Elias Max from Splinterlands. He's a kind of energy alchemist, so I depicted him snapping his fingers and making energy come out of them. This time I wanted to try something new and render the drawing avoiding the use of lines. It's something I really enjoy seeing, but I find it tricky in many aspects, especially when it comes to achieving that semi-realism in drawings of this style.
Hola, este es mi dibujo de Elias Max de Splinterlands. Es una especie de alquimista de la energía, así que lo representé chasqueando los dedos y haciendo salir energía de ellos. Esta vez quise probar algo nuevo y renderizar el dibujo evitando el uso de líneas. Es algo que me gusta mucho ver, pero que me resulta complicado en muchos aspectos, sobre todo en la obtención de ese semirrealismo en los dibujos de este estilo.
I began by first drawing a sketch with the character's pose and some minor details.
Comencé por dibujar ante todo un boceto con la pose del personaje y algunos detalles menores.
Starting from this structure, I began to make the sketch. This is the first version of my sketch, where I focused on some elements of the clothing and the characteristic details of the face.
A partir de esta estructura comencé a hacer el boceto. Esta es la primera versión de mi boceto, donde me centré en algunos elementos de la vestimenta y los detalles característicos del rostro.
And finally, this was my final sketch with all the details. I really liked how it turned out, and I think I'll return to this sketch soon to make a lineart version of it, since I forgot to add things like the tattoo to the final version of my drawing.
Y, por último, este fue mi boceto final con todos los detalles. Me gustó bastante cómo quedó, y creo que muy pronto regresaré a este boceto para realizar una versión con lineart del mismo, ya que olvidé agregarle cosas como el tatuaje a la versión final de mi dibujo.
On top of my sketch, I quickly made a provisional lineart. Although it won't be seen in the final result, it will help me define the color areas for each section and make coloring easier.
Sobre mi boceto hice rápidamente un lineart provisional. Aunque al final no se verá en el resultado, me servirá para delimitar los colores de cada sector y poder colorear más fácilmente.
For some reason, I started rendering the drawing with the tie—maybe because the red color caught my attention. Then I did the face, the hair, and the green beret. I also added a flat gray background to work more easily.
Por alguna razón, comencé a renderizar el dibujo por la corbata, quizás porque el color rojo me llamó la atención. Seguí con la cara, los cabellos del rostro y la boina de color verde. También agregué un fondo plano gris para trabajar con mayor facilidad.
By this point I had quite a bit of my drawing done, and although I wasn't entirely satisfied with the result, I think it was pretty good for a first render, especially of a human, where there's so much that can go wrong.
Hasta este punto ya tenía bastante hecho de mi dibujo, y aunque no estaba satisfecho del todo con el resultado, creo que estaba bastante bien para un primer renderizado y, sobre todo, de un humano, donde hay mucho en lo que equivocarse.
Once I had the entire character rendered, I simply added a very dark atmosphere and lit the parts of the character that were touched by the light from the sparks coming from his fingers. For the sparks, I used a brush effect from Ibis Paint, although I think doing them manually would have looked much better. So let's not see this drawing as a final version; without a doubt, I'll come back to it in some time to improve it in many aspects and with new knowledge.
Cuando tuve todo el personaje renderizado, simplemente añadí una atmósfera muy oscura e iluminé las partes del personaje que eran tocadas por la luz de las chispas que salen de sus dedos. Para las chispas usé un pincel de efecto de Ibis Paint, aunque creo que manualmente habría quedado mucho mejor. Así que no veamos este dibujo como versión final; sin dudas, dentro de un tiempo regreso para mejorarlo en muchos aspectos y con nuevos conocimientos.
