It's already late and we're walking back from school while I'm getting into a fight with Lawrence, I said fuck you Lawrence, he replied you was taking too long. I said man you knew I liked Jane, sam jumped in and said man that bitch even ain't worth fighting over, I said, Yeah, fuck it, you can have her, hope you have fun at your movie. I angrily walked past them, sam shouted you both need to chill, I'm good if he's good, Lawrence replied. I turned back and said fuck both of you. Just then I heard some noise, sounded like a robbery so i hid beside the closest van, signaled my boys to hide. I was observing from where I was hiding, I head a gunshot and someone went down while the one who fired the gun was running towards my direction, he stopped right in front of me like he was confused of what to do next, my spirit left me for a second, this is the Southside, no one leaves a loose ends. Before I could say I didn't see anything, the man took off and I took a very deep breath, me and my boys took off.
The next morning in school, Lawrence said I'm never taking that route home, Sam replied me either that scary guy is probably looking for us right now. But I'm the one he saw, I said calmly. Just then someone shouted from a distance, Mr Phillips, I turned and it was the teacher in charge of the school dance, he motioned for me to come inside. Sam asked what are you going to do? I'll catch you later, I replied. I walked up to the teacher and said look I'm not trying to dance alright, I was just trying to holla at a little girl. Well, you signed up, didn't you? The least you could is be the man of your words, he replied. Come on, show me what you got, he continued. Now? I asked. Yes, right now, he replied. But I can't dance, I said, he said he couldn't and he still can't dance but he wants to see what I've got. So I climbed up the stage and made some few wrong moves and the girls started laughing, I stopped and said to him, I told you I couldn't. He told them to stop laughing, he came up the stage, tried few steps, he really sucks at dancing, they girls couldn't help but laughed. He said I told you I suck too, he said I should try again, and I did few more moves, I was being more serious this time and I made the right moves. He looked at me and said, you've got some moves, I didn't say it was going to be easy, you just have to practice. At that moment I could see Jane smiling at me from a distance and I smiled back at her and walked outta the stage.
I got home and this dude showed up at our door, said he wants to talk to me. So the other night after I got home, I might have told my sister what I saw, she might have also said something to her boyfriend and her boyfriend might have told the brother to the nigga that was shot that I saw something. The dude outside our door happens to be the brother to the nigga that was shot, and he's asking me to tell him who shot his brother, i ain't telling you shit, I replied. I know you know he said, I replied, if I tell you the person that killed your brother, and you kill the nigga, his goons will be coming after me, this conversation is over. Then he said look little man, I'll give you whatever you want, just show me who shot him. I told him I'll take his wheels, he offered me some cash instead, i got the cash and I told him I'm still keeping the bike, he gave in. But this dude doesn't look like a drug dealer, he looks like a regular person with a regular job so i asked what's his name and he said Tariq. I took him down the blocks where the other guy hangs, the guy was there with a hat on, so i told Tariq that's the guy with the hats on, he asked are you sure? Hell yeah! I replied. So what are you going to do? I asked.
In the school the next day me and my boys are wispering about the whole thing that went down, Sam asked Lawrence if he could ask his elder bro to ask around why the nigga was gun down. I told Sam I didn't need anyone asking around anything, if anything, the dude saw me, I'm the one he'd be coming for. Just then Jane shouted from on top of the stairways, what are y'all whispering about? None of your business Jane, Sam shouted the reply. You coming for dance rehearsal? She continued. That's tonight? I asked. Yeah, mondays and Fridays too, I texted you she replied. Lawrence said remember we had a game tonight, he ain't stopping you'll from playing, just have to play by yourselves, Jane replied. Sam said forget about her Tony but before he could finish I've said yes to Jane. Sam said then go ahead, Have fun with your munchkins.
Class is over and I'm walking out with sam and he says hey do you want me to wait for you? I told him no I'm good. What if that dude is waiting for you he asked, I said I'll just take the back way, besides I get to walk Jane home. He looked at me and said damn she got you p*ssy-whipped and she hasn't even given it up yet. she will, chill bro I replied. Then this fat tough looking girl walks right up to me and grab me by my arm then crash me by the locker and said, you better not be talking about my cousin, and I said it's ain't even like that. She said good cause we're Jehovah's witnesses. And you wanna be knocking on my door or something? I asked. No dummy, Jane can't be nobody's hoe she replied. Sam looked at her and said, you don't even like her like that. I was talking to the pretty one not you, she replied and left. Are you good tony? Sam ask. Messed up my arm bro, how am I supposed to be gaming tonight, I replied. We laughed.
