Greetings!
Shade who happened to be the elder sister to Gbenga my classmate was so beautiful but one thing that I detest about her was her pride, although, I was not that close with her but all what I have heard about her made me detest and somehow want to move far away from her as I happened to be someone who hates the pride and love the humble in heart.
One day his brother Gbenga told me not to move close to her. Gbenga said,
“Sam, Shade is not the type of a person one can get close with, she's always feeling big of herself. She's always insulting everyone, especially the guys that come to her.
When I heard this, I was like this kind of a girl is not someone that would go far in life as I have been told by my parents that anyone that's proud would not go far in life. Aside from this, I also was of the opinion that this same lady called Shade would find it easy to get married in life.
Although, what was said about her could not be ascertained by me and this is because I was not that close to her, but since it's coming from his biological brother, I believed.
However, on a particular day when I was on my way home, their family driver came around to pick them up from the school car park, then I and Gbenga were in primary four class going to primary five and and as for Shade, she was already in her final class of primary five.
So, immediately Shade saw me, she beckoned on me saying,
“Hey, hey, hey.”
Although she was looking in my direction, I was not aware she was calling me. She looked at his younger brother and asked for my name as I was looking in their direction but could not believe that the lady with such a price could be calling me.
It's after she had asked Gbenga her younger brother of my name that she called me saying,
“Sam, please can you please come over and join us so that we will be going home together.”
Although she was calling from afar, when I heard her calling my name, I was shocked and surprised as I wouldn't have thought she would have such a large heart of calling me the poor boy to come and join them in their vehicle.
Even my classmate and friend who happened to be her younger brother Gbenga who had always accused her of her pride and knows that we are living on the same street had never invited me to come and join them in their vehicle in order to be going home together.
So, these were the thoughts that's running through my mind as I was approaching where they were. When I got to where they were, Shade moved closer and shook hands with me as she asked me to enter into their vehicle. However, one thing that I noticed was that of the countenance of Gbenga that changed. It was all written over her that she was not happy with what just happened.
So, immediately I entered their car, the driver put the car in motion and before we knew it, I was in front of our house and it was that day that I got to know that trekking home can never be compared to going home inside a vehicle.
When I alighted from the vehicle, I was so happy and showed Shade and the driver my gratitude by appreciating their kind gesture towards me. I equally thanked Gbenga for telling Shade my name and this is because if he had not told her my name, I would not have known that I was the one Shade was trying to beaconed to.
As I got home, my mum asked,
“Sam, you are home early today?” “Yes,” I replied. “Why is it so?” She asked. “It's so because Shade told their driver to help me home,” I replied.
When my mum heard this, she was surprised as she had also been told about Shade and her pride. She asked me saying,
“How is that possible?” “I don't know,” I replied.
After I told her that I didn't know how it had happened, my mum asked if she can go to them just to show her appreciation, but since Shade had already warned me not to see it as a big deal, I told my mum not to bother herself as it was nothing.
The following day, when it was morning, I decided to leave home very early in the morning and it was on my way that I heard someone shouting my name saying,
“Sam! Sam!! Sam!!!” It's when I looked back that I saw them again and it was Shade that was shouting my name. She asked me to enter their car and when I entered, I greeted them all and the funny thing was that their mum was in the car with them. We all got to school and alighted as the assembly was already ongoing, so we all joined the morning assembly as Gbenga’s mother moved to the proprietor’s office.
After the assembly, Gbenga came to me and told me not to trust Shade and I nodded my head in agreement with what he had told me.
Although, he believed I have heard him, but deep inside me, I was not interested in his false accusation again, when it was break time, I met with Shade at the school cafeteria and we had lengthy discussion and it's in our discussion that I got to know that all that was said about her was not true, here and there, we started our friendship journey, although she graduated from the primary school before me, but even at that we maintained our friendship as I later joined her in her secondary school and it's at this point that our families got to know we are friends, after our secondary education, we moved to the same tertiary institution, although she was a year ahead of me and it's at the end that I proposed to her and we got married with kids. I once told her everything I heard about her, but she dismissed the accusations and we both laughed it off.
