Nicknames can be fun, especially when you get to choose them yourself; you get to give yourself something nice, slick, or whatever it is you like. But there are some nicknames that we don't get to decide ourselves; these are nicknames that are given to us by people, maybe due to something that happened around/to us or other circumstances.
Well, I happen to fall under the second part of things, the part where I didn't get to pick a certain nickname that I'm being. Truth be told, I'm not a huge fan of the nickname, but the good thing here is that there are less than five people in the world who call me by that nickname, so that's fine to me.
If you're wondering what the nickname is, it is “Bouncing baby boy,” and here's how I got it.
One evening I had gone to visit a friend of mine at his hair barbing salon, and while we were there, a lady who lives in the same building as me had walked in with her kid. She hadn't come to cut her or that of her kid, but to charge her phone.
While we all sat there conversing, I had started to bounce a little on the seat I was on, mainly because I was vibing to the music playing at the shop, only for the lady to look at me and jokingly call me a bouncing baby boy.
Her child, who was a few years old and was at that stage where he learned his words by repeating everything anyone said, had heard it and just kept it on repeat in his mouth. At first it was nothing, but then I saw him the next day, and he kept on calling me the same name over and over again, and all of a sudden, it stuck.
His mom decided it was a good name and would call it whenever she saw me, and so would her sister, and that was it; the name Bouncing Baby Boy was born. It's been over a year now, and I can't remember the last time I heard any one of them mention my real name.
