Yesterday was my last day of work for the semester, so we decided to go out for a bite to eat and some beers. Since it was a spontaneous outing, without much planning—which, in my opinion, are the best—we went to a street food stand that sells not only hamburgers and hot dogs, but also cold beer.
Ayer fue mi último día de trabajo del semestre, así que decidimos salir a comer algo y tomar unas cervezas. Como fue una salida espontánea, sin mucha planificación —que, en mi opinión, es lo mejor— fuimos a un puesto de comida callejera que vende no solo hamburguesas y perritos calientes, sino también cerveza fría.
The only beer brand they had was Polar Light, and although it's not one of our favorites, we ordered a round because we were thirsty and wanted to have a good time. The owner told us they stock this brand because it's the one most in demand. And it's true; this light beer, with 4% alcohol, is the most popular beer in the Venezuelan market, even more so than Polar Negra and Zulia.
La única marca de cerveza que tenían era Polar Light, y aunque no es una de nuestras favoritas, pedimos una ronda porque teníamos sed y queríamos pasar un buen rato. El dueño nos dijo que la venden porque es la más solicitada. Y es cierto; esta cerveza ligera, con un 4% de alcohol, es la más popular en el mercado venezolano, incluso más que Polar Negra y Zulia.
Because it has a very low alcohol content and low bitterness, this beer can be enjoyed by beginners and those with less discerning palates. In fact, almost all the women I know prefer this beer because they say it doesn't have a strong hop flavor and is low in calories. All I'm saying is that sometimes it can feel like drinking fizzy water.
Debido a su bajo contenido alcohólico y su poco amargor, esta cerveza es apta para principiantes y para paladares menos exigentes. De hecho, casi todas las mujeres que conozco la prefieren porque dicen que no tiene un sabor a lúpulo fuerte y es baja en calorías. Lo único que digo es que a veces puede dar la sensación de estar bebiendo agua con gas.
But since the idea was to have a good time, we ordered several rounds of beers while we talked not only about the semester that had just ended, but also about the trips we want to take during these 45 days of vacation. Surely, many of the plans we made yesterday won't happen, as is usually the case, but at least we had fun and got excited planning them.
Pero como la idea era pasarlo bien, pedimos varias rondas de cervezas mientras charlábamos no solo sobre el semestre que acababa de terminar, sino también sobre los viajes que queríamos hacer durante estos 45 días de vacaciones. Seguramente muchos de los planes que hicimos ayer no se concretarán, como suele suceder, pero al menos nos divertimos y nos emocionó planificarlos.
In the end, I don't know how many beers we drank; I only know that when the bill came, we all chipped in. Afterward, everyone went home, but not before promising to get together soon to continue talking. That night, I thought that this kind of outing should be a monthly thing as a way to de-stress. Don't skip the drinking with friends part.
Al final, no sé cuántas cervezas bebimos; solo sé que cuando llegó la cuenta, todos pusimos algo. Después, cada uno se fue a casa, no sin antes prometer que nos reuniríamos pronto para seguir charlando. Esa noche, pensé que este tipo de salidas deberían ser una tradición mensual para desestresarnos. No se salten la parte de beber con los amigos.
