I am not sure if this day is celebrated across the world today or it is just in my part of the world. I find this day celebration very special because it is about celebrating relationships of heart. These are bonds which we have created with love and compassion towards each other. These are relations of choice and not compulsion. You do not have a hold over who is part of your family but surely you have a hold over who is part of your friends circle.
As such I have a big girl gang, but to be honest there are very few who are very special and I cherish them. I feel very grateful that they are a part of my life. Most of my very special friends are not even those who I meet often, some of them I meet once a year may be but still the relation is imprinted on my heart and no time and distance can diminish it. Even though we do not have conversations daily but we are still there for each other when needed.
Where my family is concerned, I have a small family and most of my life I have spent more time with my friends then my family, which I mean the extended family and not my hubby and son. They are there with me all the time :-) and they are no less then friends to me. I can share anything and everything with these two people also in my life, just like how I would do with a friend.
On this day I miss my best friend a lot, because when we were together, on this day we would have our own celebration. We would go for a nice lunch, get drunk, party, talk about our woes of life and so much fun. Nevertheless whenever we get to meet we fill up these gaps. To be honest life without friends is dull and colorless, they bring so much joy and color to life. You feel alive in their presence. With family also it is good but then it is the same thing daily and monotony sets in, whereas friends they come like a breadth of fresh air.
Since today is a working day, I had a nice gathering with my friends here in Muscat over the weekend. We went to the sports center, played games there and then later on went for a nice Turkish meal enjoys Kebabs and Kunefe.
Spectators are also needed :-)
