Sometimes I feel that a parent and child relationship is very funny, it's like a one-way street. When a child is born, parents are very happy, the baby is their bundle of joy, they give everything to the baby in an unconditional manner, there are no ifs and buts, there are no other priorities in life except for the baby. Their needs are parked for later and baby's need become priority. It's like their whole life starts revolving around their children.

As children grow up in to adulthood, they have their own family and home, they start distancing out from their parents. They have their own home but it will never be called their parents' home, whereas the parents' home will still be their child's home. Their finances will be separate and they will not share it with their parents, but yes, they will still keep track of their parents' finances. The wealth that their parents will build up will be enjoyed by them freely but the wealth that they will build up will not be enjoyed by their parents freely. Sometimes I wonder why have we made a society like this, like a one-way path where it only flows down and barely flows up.

By the way, when I write on this, it does not mean that I have problems with my child. With God's grace he is an understanding boy. This is in general what I see around. When I visit old age homes, this is what keeps coming to my mind. Why do parents get isolated when they are not needed any more. Why do children become so selfish that they start feeling like their parents are a burden to them. Yes, sometimes if the right parenting has not been done, then it is possible that the child will withdraw from their parents.

In the olden days especially in India there was strong concept of joint family living and everyone took care of one another, then the western influence set in to our society as well and also the constraints of space, which started leading to nuclear families. But joint of nuclear the responsibilities do not end. If you are not staying under one roof, it does not mean you cannot take care of your parents.

I also know of some people who while their parents have been alive, have not been taken care of, and after they have passed away then all the fuss is being made of how much they miss them and all those social media posts of, I miss you Mom and Dad. So senseless it is. While they were alive you did not bother for them then why this show business later.

With my Mom, as she gets older every day, I keep thinking my time with her is getting lesser and I do not know how much more time I have with her, so I want to give her all the happiness as much as I can while she is around. I wish no regrets some day when she will not be around. Sometimes I wish that she becomes immortal and she is with me till I am there, but then reality does shake me up.
