With Yuna's brother safe, I set off toward Komatsu to secure a grapple tool for Castle Kaneda. En route, I engaged a Mongol patrol. Despite a standoff error and incoming explosives, I eliminated the heavy brutes, explosive thrower, and archer to clear the road.
Yuna's brother was finally safe, but we were forced to split up after our escape. I needed to make sure they reached the town of Komatsu without incident.
If Taka had enough time to recover, he might be able to craft a tool for me to scale the formidable walls of my uncle's prison at Castle Kaneda. To get that gear, I set off on the road toward Komatsu.
Along the way, I spotted a Mongol patrol blocking the path. I decided to challenge them to a standoff to test their strength against my blade. One warrior stepped forward while the rest of the unit held back.
My plan was to strike down the first attacker and immediately chain the kill into a standoff streak, but I made a grave mistake by accidentally opening photo mode right as the duel began.
Upon exiting the screen, Jin moved forward unprepared and took heavy damage from the enemy's strike.
As I scrambled to recover and prepare to parry the incoming heavy brutes, a Mongol archer launched an explosive arrow into the middle of the path. The explosion forced the Mongols to fall back, giving me just enough time to retreat and dodge the blast radius.
Switching to the brute stance designed for heavy opponents, I engaged the approaching brutes and took the first one down. Right as he collapsed, another explosive landed nearby, and exploded his body.
Realizing the danger, I shifted my focus to the enemy throwing explosives, discovering he was hurling the dangerous charges by hand rather than firing them from a bow. I eliminated him quickly before turning to strike down another brute who rushed into melee range.
With the ground forces suppressed, I turned my attention toward a lone archer firing at me from a distance.
As I sprinted toward him, he panicked and fled down the path to escape my wrath. I refused to let him get away, closing the distance rapidly and slaying him as he made a desperate attempt to notch another arrow.
Returning to the main battleground, I found that the remaining Mongols had fled, abandoning their fallen comrades. I used photo mode to survey the surrounding countryside and spotted a lone runner off in the distance.
I tracked him down, and though he seemed terrified at first, he lunged at me as I drew near, landing a quick strike before I cut him down.
Crawling in the dirt, he clung weakly to life, so I ended his suffering with a final execution stroke before resuming my journey to Komatsu.
