The Common Yellowthroat is always very shy; it doesn’t show itself right away, but instead circles around in the thickest vegetation until, for a few seconds, it perches on a branch and strikes a more elegant pose—though it always reveals that characteristic shyness. |

Not so the Cuban Emerald, which, despite its small size, is very territorial and always eager to make its presence known and mark its territory; that’s why, in my presence, it usually takes a more defensive stance in a highly visible spot, which makes my job easier. |

This little fellow (the Cuban Vireo) is driven by curiosity; he can’t resist finding out who’s nearby, hence his obviously curious posture, with his beautiful, large, brown eyes; he’ll always be hopping among the branches, keeping watch. |

One more thing about the Common Yellowthroat that I forgot to mention: despite their characteristic shyness, the juveniles are the most trusting—but only for a short time. Within a few days, they become similar to the adults. |

And what can I say about the Yellow-faced Grassquit? It’s extremely wary, but I like that, because the photos are very evocative; they pose from a distance. |

On the other hand, Northern Parulas are always ready to fight—yes, you read that right—when several species are present, they assert their presence, and their postures make that clear. |
|
I want to clarify that I take all these photographs with the utmost respect and discretion for the birds in their natural environment, without forcing any behavior; I simply observe them among the vegetation and enjoy the nature around me every day. |
