The journey across the ocean from North America to the Caribbean that migratory birds undertake is truly amazing. Especially the smallest ones; for example, this little one is a warrior—many come from the Arctic, a distance of literally thousands of kilometers.

El viaje a través del océano desde Norteamérica hacia el Caribe que hacen las aves migratorias es realmente sorprendente. En especial las más chicas; por ejemplo, esta pequeña es una guerrera, muchas vienen del Ártico, son miles de kilómetros literalmente.

That’s why it’s such a celebration to know that the time of their arrival is approaching.

De ahí que sea toda una fiesta saber que se aproxima el tiempo de su llegada.

Photographing these species is vitally important, especially in a country that doesn’t prioritize nature conservation, which is why I often seem like an anachronism to those who watch me trying to take pictures.

Fotografiar a estas especies es de vital importancia y más en un país que no tiene dentro de sus objetivos la protección de la naturaleza, por lo que suelo parecer un objeto anacrónico para los que me observan intentando fotografiar.

It’s not easy, but honestly, it’s more about tricks than technical skill—though that’s important, too—but I’ve been doing this for so many years now that I’ve picked up a thing or two along the way.

No es cosa sencilla, pero la verdad es más trucos que tanta técnica, aunque esta es importante, pero son tantos años ya haciéndolo que alguna práctica he comido.

Many are repeat visitors every year; like this one—it’s practically part of the family.

Muchas son visitantes recurrentes todos los años; como este ejemplar, ya casi es de la familia.

It’s also nice to see how, in recent times, children have been taking an interest in the subject.

Es bonito también ver cómo en los últimos tiempos los niños se van interesando en el tema.

For me, it’s more than a pleasure—it’s a necessity, both spiritual and environmental.

Por mi parte, más que un placer es una necesidad, espiritual y medioambiental.

I hope that, despite all the setbacks, future generations will gradually become more aware of this issue for the good of everyone; for now, we continue working.
