Hello, Hivers friends.
Sometimes I find myself thinking about certain things when I look back at the photographs I take on the street. Once I鈥檓 home, with a coffee in hand and looking at the faces of the people I photographed, it鈥檚 very common for fictional stories about them to start going through my head. I鈥檝e asked a few friends about it and apparently it鈥檚 something that happens quite often to street photographers.
Sometimes a person鈥檚 face seems to tell their story all by itself. Other times, it鈥檚 much harder to imagine what they are thinking or what might be going on inside their head. And then there are those completely neutral expressions, faces that seem to show no feelings at all. Those are the ones that disturb me the most.
Because when someone seems to have lost the desire to feel, I can鈥檛 help thinking that perhaps they need some kind of help. And lately, I鈥檝e been seeing those faces far too often on the streets.
I don鈥檛 pretend to be a mind reader, of course. I know perfectly well that a photograph only captures an instant, and that many of the stories I imagine probably have nothing to do with reality. It鈥檚 simply a habit I鈥檝e discovered in myself and, after talking with other street photographers, I鈥檝e realized it鈥檚 quite common.
I took this series a few days ago through the streets of Centro Habana, a place that has been deeply affected by the problems we are facing today.
I hope you enjoy them. I鈥檒l be reading your thoughts.
Saludos amigos hivers.
