Working at a hotel front desk during the night shift introduces you to all kinds of people. Some people are very sweet, some are tired, and some are just full of heavy anger. Last night, I learned a huge lesson that I will never forget. It proved to me that soft words can actually melt the hardest hearts.

The Midnight Storm: 1:00 AM

It was around 1:00 AM in the middle of the night. The lobby was completely quiet and the yellow lamps were burning low. Suddenly, the main glass doors opened fast. A tall man walked inside. He wore a costly black suit and a shiny gold watch. He looked like some super rich business boss from Lahore.

But his face was completely red with anger. He banged his leather bag on my wooden desk and started shouting loudly about his room booking.

The computer system had a small technical error, and his room key was not ready. He yelled at me, "Do you even know who I am? My time is worth millions, and you are wasting it!" Man, for a second, my old fears came rushing back. My heart started beating fast. In my old clothing store job, if a customer got mad, I would get scared and start crying. But last night, I took a deep breath. I looked at his angry eyes, smiled very softly, and spoke with full respect.

**Simple Words, Big Magic **

****I did not argue with him at all. I quietly said,**

"Sir, I totally understand you are tired from travel. Sir, please sit on that soft sofa for just two minutes. I am checking the computer keys right now to fix your room. I am very sorry for this bad issue."

Sir, please sit on that soft sofa for just two minutes. I am checking the computer keys right now to fix your room. I am very sorry for this bad issue."

He stopped shouting suddenly. He looked at my calm face, completely shocked. He did not expect me to be this polite. He quietly went to sit on the sofa. My hands were shaking on the computer keyboard, but I processed his room VIP keys super fast. When I walked over to give him the keys, I also brought a fresh, hot cup of green tea from the kitchen.

When he took the tea, his whole face changed. The anger vanished completely. He looked at my name tag and smiled. He said, "Aftab, I am sorry I yelled at you. I had a very bad day in my business meetings. You handle your work with great patience, young man."

What This Taught Me"

An angry person is often just a tired soul looking for a little bit of peace and respect."

He shook my hand warmly before going upstairs. He did not give me a cash tip, but his apology and his words felt bigger than any money. When my shift ended at 6:00 AM, I walked back to my tiny rented room just as the Fajr azan was ending. My body was totally exhausted, but my spirit was flying high. I realized that good manners are a super power. I am growing every single day in Lahore, not just as a worker, but as a real human being.
