While walking through the beautiful little alleys of Büyükada Island near Istanbul , we come across a house with a considerable amount of cats surrounding the food that have been prepared for them.
The old lady who owns these animals tells us that due to her dedication to these street cats, she hasn’t been able to go on a vacation for the past five years. Such devotion and compassion is not common, but there are people in this world who devote their lives to caring for animals. After all, they are God’s creatures and should be treated with love and respect. Although they are treated well in most cases in Turkey, there are still some people like this unusual woman who go above and beyond the call of duty.
In addition to the cats that come up to the house’s doorstep to eat, one black cat keeps away from the rest, showing no interest in food. The old woman tells us that this cat is very shy and only comes to eat when she personally give her food, waiting patiently for the rest of her feline family to finish.
[Büyükada is the largest of the Princes’ Islands in the Sea of Marmara near Istanbul. It is famous for its Ottoman-era wooden villas, car-free roads, and its local tradition of looking after the territory’s large stray cat and dog population.
Have you ever met such people who devote their lives to caring for animals? How do you feel about the animal lovers and their small way of helping the less fortunate members of the animal kingdom?
