There is a unique type of sadness that occurs only during winter. After the fall and dropping off of the colorful leaves, there is nothing but what is necessary in the world remaining. Winter is the time of year when nature shows us the beauty of simplicity, lines and contrasts.
On a cold and foggy day when the weak sun tried to fight its way through the thick fog that covered the sky, I decided to make a walk and some photos. The atmosphere was surreal and then I noticed the gathering of two crows near one single tree, which seemed to me to be the perfect subject for the shot.
The first photo is the ideal example of both movement and stillness at the same time. One tree with its complicated branches rises to the bright and diffuse light that passes through the dense fog like an orb in the sky. There is a crow perched on the highest branch of this tree, gazing in front of itself in the mist.
On the other side, there is a crow flying to the left with open wings, passing through the dense air.
In the second image, one becomes close to the true spirit of the tree when one looks at the peaceful scene. The sun is directly behind the branches of this wonderful tree and the light it gives helps in illuminating the fog.
In the second image, one comes to see two crows which have perched themselves on the branches; their shapes are seen against the strong light coming from the sun. While one of the crows is on a higher branch, the other one has perched itself on a low branch, but aligned itself perfectly with the sun.
The complex network of twigs is a sharp contrast to the environment as it appears to be like an ink drawing. It was a fantastic experience to stand under the tree and watch the intelligent birds live peacefully in the chilly environment.
Creating such images has made me understand that sometimes even in black and white, stories of life can be extremely beautiful.
