Today I’m stopping by once again to share a very simple and easy-to-make recipe that everyone at home will love—it’s perfect to serve with coffee, whether with family, friends, or guests. Learning how to make this delicious cake will also come in handy when a family member has a birthday or anniversary—you can bake this delicious cake for them. Plus, it serves as a great base that you can decorate however you like, whether you’re making it for other types of events.

This cake has an incredible texture—it’s very soft and fluffy. Plus, the orange flavor makes it absolutely delicious.

Now, I’ll list the ingredients and provide step-by-step instructions for making this recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 kilo of self-rising flour
  • 7 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 500 grams of margarine
  • 800 grams of granulated sugar
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 cup of juice from 2 oranges
  • Zest of two oranges
  • 2 tablespoons of vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt

Preparation

The first thing I did was take a sieve and sift the flour into a bowl, add the salt, cinnamon, and baking soda, fold in gently, and set aside.

Place the margarine in a bowl, cream it with an electric mixer, add the sugar little by little, continue beating until the sugar lumps have dissolved a bit, add the egg yolks one at a time, continue beating, add the sifted flour little by little—alternating between the flour and the orange juice—continue beating and repeating the same process with the orange juice; finally, add the milk and stir with a wooden spoon.

In a separate bowl, I beat the egg whites. When they form soft peaks, I add 1/2 cup of sugar, continue beating, and then fold them into the mixture along with the vanilla and orange zest.

I pour this batter into a 30-centimeter cake pan that has been floured and buttered, bake it for 50 minutes, and then check it by inserting a toothpick; if it comes out clean, I turn off the oven and let it cool for 20 minutes. I remove it from the pan and set it aside to serve with coffee as an afternoon snack.
