When I was expecting, all the mom's gave their advice on what we would need for the newborn and every piece of advice was different.
For the breastfeeding one said to buy an electric breast pump, the other told that there is no point of getting one because the milk doesn't come out with it at all. Instead we should try the manual version.
"You have to get a baby carrier, that's how you will get your hands free." "The absolutely must is a baby sling." "You should get one of those rocking baby sitters." "You have to have a bugaboo pram."
We didn't know what the baby would really need. This was our first one. At least I was confused (with all my hormones running) what would be necessary and what not. And of course when you go to one of these baby stores, they will sell you everything as "must have".
We didn't get much, or that's what I at least thought. At the moment I'm going through her clothes she has grown out of and oh my god there is a lot. Some of them she got to wear maybe once or twice, some I have saved as a party/going to the city clothes and later noticed that she has never actually worn them.
There is a lot of pressure put on the shoulders of the future parents and (still) especially on moms. Moms are comparing themselves to each other at every turn, questioning if they are doing the right thing and giving their baby everything she or he needs.
My answer on this one would be yes. You are doing the right thing and being the best mom/parent if you feed your baby (no matter how you feed), change the diapers and simply love your child. That is all she/he needs. You and the baby will be just fine.
Hugs, Momone
