I've always been fascinated by the beauty of paper flowers. I have seen them in crafts, in schools as a decoration and I've watched them a lot on YouTube and Instagram. Because of the beauty, I became determined to make mine.
I went to the market, got the materials needed - paper, scissors, glue and I played a YouTube tutorial. I was all set. I envisioned making a beautiful artwork. I wanted to decorate my sister's room and I wanted it to be a surprise, as she was going to be returning that evening.
At first, everything was going well. I had cut out the petal shapes so carefully, making sure they were equal and identical. I arranged the first flowers. It looked okay. It wasn't perfect but it looked okay and I was encouraged. I kept going on.
But as I made the flowers, it seemed like things were starting to go down the hill. My petals were uneven and my glue was watery, giving me a crooked stem. I tried to make some adjustments but the gum was just flowing; nothing was sticking. It looked like the gum was a fake.
My paper was tearing and my scissors was slipping of my hand. The whole table was filled with watery gum.
Despite my frustration, I refused to give up. I had invested so much time and effort already. So, I kept making more flowers and each of them came out worse than the previous one. My table was a mess.
I looked at my pathetic flowers and started asking myself what I was thinking in the first place. I had never done a paper craft before, neither was I a master in the art of paper art.
My best friend tried encouraging me to try more but looking at the things I had made made me lose my determination to continue.
I rounded up with the flower that looked like a disaster to me and cleaned up my table. My sister came home that day and found a lot of papers in the waste bin. When she asked what happened, I was too ashamed to tell her because I knew she would laugh at me.
I don't think I'm going to try it on my own again, for now. I'll just look for an expert and learn directly from them.
