That Asunción of Old Time
In Nueva Esparta "La Asunción" you have by name
Being the insular capital of Venezuela
For you in daisy many men fought
Who won the battle without really going to school.
They used to call you La Margarita
Historical site of struggle and independence
Today visited by many tourists
They travel the island quite efficiently.
With that green of very high mountains
Adorned by large leafy trees
And even if you've been attacked by pirates
Your church is still that beautiful place.
By then people were not rich or refined
There were no keys, they were open houses
Without titles or technology they were educated people
Being today the cradle of great poets.
It is nice to remember that Asunción of yesteryear
From narrow colonial streets and colorful houses
And even though we have changed over the years
For grandparents, you are still the preferred capital.
