I met a guy on Tinder once-upon-a-life ago whose opening gambit was, “So what books are on your bedside table?”

I think I fell in love right then and there.

I’m a nerd and a bibliophile and a minimalist.

One thing I just can’t seem to shed are books.

I give them away or sell them, hoping to shed more and lighten my load. Since I’ve been on foot for some years and basically living wherever I lay my hat, this is important. But then I walk past a second hand book store…

Second hand books are my favourites.

I prefer them to new books because you can feel the history and sometimes, if you’re lucky, you find messages handwritten just inside the cover to wish someone for a special occasion or - notes to self handwritten in the margins, as the person was reading.

It is also in alignment with my Minimalist approach to living although, if I am to be honest, this is not the primary reason I buy pre-loved books. It’s the fact that it was a part of someone else’s journey that enamours me far more.

I missed the book collection initiative, by mipiano@mipiano, by some months now, I think. Too much life and not enough life with art included. Just the ugh kinda life of a reality that I would rather avoid by reading or making.

But I have not even had the time to make or read. Which is why it sucks. But I’ve said this. I just want to be clear that a life without making or reading is shite.

I am hoping that this has changed, and am focusing on changing it, because a life without art and making, or writing, is listless and dull to me. And, I suspect, to anyone vaguely creative.

I can vouch for this in full, from experience, now. Don’t put the keyboard away and give up on your creativity, would be my suggestion.

My happiest months were writing and creating on this blockchain. I did it back then for the love and I am back again for the same reason. It brings me joy.

Anyhoo.

Although I have missed the deadline for this one by some months, it still fits into one of my favourite communities here on Hive for obvious reasons.

This is all that is left of my collection of books. All that remain of a once three bedroom house with three bookcases full to the brim. I gifted most of those to charities and a school and have, somehow, kept one or two. I have also, somehow, picked up new pre-loved books along the way.

I am a book nuffler.

These are what books I have on my bedside table at the moment. And in the cupboard since I no longer have a place to have a bookcase.
