“The loafer says, “There’s a lion on the loose! If I go out I’ll be eaten alive!””
The Bible:Book of Proverbs 22:13 MSG https://bible.com/bible/97/pro.22.13.MSG
When the aggression on Ukraine started and it was clear that refugees would come to my country, the pastor of my church decided to turn our building into a temporary shelter.
My head was full of questions like:
- how is it done?
- are there any regulations?
- we can't afford this!
- who has time for the hard work on the ground?
These questions could have become good excuses for doing nothing. However, we did it. We got beds and mattresses, cleaned some unused rooms and reported our readiness to accept the refugees. As of writing, 40 women and children have a safe and warm place to sleep and plenty food to eat.
- we learnt how it is done by doing it
- we followed existing laws but left room for creativity where the regulations had not been crated
- we got so many goods that we hardly have to pay anything. Well, heating, water and electricity bills are going to hurt. But then friends from my company donated so much that we are secure for almost two months
- volunteers were the answer for lack of time. But for how long can they last if they work 16hrs a day? Answer came from heavens. Yesterday I witnessed a miracle. My company has given me 5 days for volunteering. So basically my company pays me for one week of helping women and children displaced from their homes.
Is there really a lion in the streets or is it only an excuse in our heads? Stay #AliveAndThriving
