Viva la Virgen 1.Long live the Virgin! [ ENG/ESP]. monomad challenge

Hello, friends of HIVE. Today I’m sharing some photos of the procession of Our Lady of Charity, the patron saint of the Cuban people, also known as the Virgin Mambisa because our ancestors carried her image as a banner during our war for independence.

Hola amigos de HIVE hoy les comparto imágenes de la Procesión de la Virgen de la Caridad, la Patrona del Pueblo Cubano, también llamada la Virgen Mambisa pues nuestros ancestros llevaban su imagen como estandarte en nuestra guerra por la independencia.

What made this year special was that she was dressed in white—we’re used to seeing her in her golden mantle. Many of us learned just before the procession began that her original mantle was white; it was a gift from the Cuban people to the Virgin, woven with gold thread.

Este año tuvo la particularidad de que vestía de blanco estamos acostumbrados a verla con su manto dorado, muchos aprendimos momentos antes de que comenzara el recorrido que su manto original era blanco fue un regalo del pueblo cubano a la virgen tejerlo con hilos de oro.

It’s always a beautiful moment, as people from other religious denominations—believers and non-believers alike—and foreigners all come together, eager to watch the Virgin pass by and ask her for HEALTH, PEACE, LOVE, STABILITY, PROSPERITY, for the PRISONERS and the SICK—in short, every good thing one could wish for from the heart for one’s family.

Siempre es un hermoso momento pues se unen otras denominaciones religiosas, creyentes o no creyentes, extranjeros todos curiosos para ver pasar la virgen y pedirle SALUD, PAZ, AMOR, ESTABILIDAD, PROSPERIDAD, por los PRESOS y los ENFERMOS en fin todo bueno que se pueda desear desde el corazón para la familia.
