Greetings to you all 👋
I once heard this saying that ” people are with you for a reason, a season or a lifetime”. I have now come to believe that saying because of human dynamics.
Growing up, I had a lot of people around me. Friends, relatives, acquaintances and well wishers but right now, a huge number of them are no more nor do I know where they are. I guess life happened to them.
The human mind is one of the hardest things to decipher in life. You only know what is presented to you. You cannot decipher a person's hidden agenda (except you're psychic).
Whether a person coming close to you is genuine or just for what they can gain is not something you can find out instantly from a person's appearance. It will only show after some level of interaction with that person.
When people come around me, I tend to catch myself wondering what they really want. ”Is this person being kind to me just to get something from me or what?” I usually find myself asking this question in my mind and as such, I am a bit cautious with people.
Many times, I have experienced situations where I felt like some of the people in my life are only with me because of what they can get from me or what I bring to the table.
One time, a guy who was my course mate was being very kind and generous with me. I accepted all he did with a pure heart, thinking that it was just his nature. Little did I know that he was aiming for something else and when he didn't get what he wanted, he disconnected himself from my life. Till today, I do not know where he is or what he's been up to.
I know that there are genuine souls who truly care and appreciate me as a person, no strings attached and I am super grateful for those who genuinely care about me but for some others, I cannot clearly say the same thing.
I had to block a particular person on my contact list recently. I did that because I have come to realize that this person doesn't really care about me but about what I can offer.
Imagine calling someone you claim to be your friend after three years of no communication whatsoever and the next thing is to begin to make demands. I didn't find it funny at all. I simply allowed this person to conclude what they were demanding from me, then I disconnected the call and simply went straight to make use of the block button on my phone.
I know that there will be times when we need things from people, friends, loved ones and family alike but I also believe that genuinely caring for the people in our lives should be foremost. Needs, wants and demands can be secondary.
When care for people is genuine, it makes things easier, smooth and less awkward when needs arise. Because people know that they are valued and genuinely cared for, they will also be willing to stand up for you and help you in times of need.
