When I was young, my dream was to be a dancer. I wanted to be a very good dancer. I had this dream of dancing on a very big stage, with the audience cheering me on with their applause and flyers.
It was a beautiful dream and I worked at it for a while. I would attend the birthday parties of my friends and would participate in all dancing competitions, claiming the winning prizes easily.
My dream as a dancer grew to the point that many around me thought that I would actually pick up a career in dancing. I was really good at it and all I wanted to do was dance till my bones couldn't move anymore. It was like my bones had a will of their own once the sound of music drifted into my ears.
How did it all start?
It started with me watching a lot of music videos with synchronized choreographies. I loved the way the dancers in the videos moved in sync with the beats of the song. Musicians like Usher, Micheal Jackson and the likes were my favourite.
I never thought of joining any crew. I simply danced to my heart's content in front of my full length mirror with no audience to notice me. Soon, I could not keep my legs and hands to myself. I started showing that love for dancing at birthday parties, church programs and other social gatherings that allowed dancing.
Dancing came to me as easily and naturally as breathing.
But of course, life happened
Now I am here, more than twenty years later, settled as an entrepreneur in a financial trades business of my own. All dreams of dancing kept away safely in my heart.
I still love to dance but it is no longer a dream I flaunt everywhere. It is now something I do for fun, enjoyment and relaxation either at parties or church gatherings.
I have no regrets that I did not make a career out of dancing. I have come to learn that in life, things usually don't go as planned and we must make do with what we have been dealt with to shape a better future for ourselves.
I was happy with that dream then and I am happy with what I am doing for myself now. Some are lucky to have their dreams come true but others (like me 😁) are blessed to have their dreams modified into something bigger and larger than life.
