This Saturday is a bit different. There is no Dabov specialty coffee at this time. Traveling around Bulgaria.
It’s Saturday, but I’m not in my home so I really cannot enjoy a Dabov Specialty coffee. Anyway I’m in Asenovgrad now. This is my wife’s hometown and we are here to see her parents. Luckily the coffee that my father in law drinks is a pretty good one. I think he buys the beans from a shop located in the town.
It’s really not bad at all and I prefer it to all other Lavazza and Kimbo coffees all around the country. He has one of these robotized machines that grind the beans right before brewing them. It’s supposed to be espresso, but the technique is far from a real espresso. Anyway, the result is pretty good and the coffee is well enjoyable.
Now… a little story while I travelled with my wife this week!
Since we had a wedding anniversary last week (9th of March), we decided to drop the kids at their grandparents, while we enjoy a travel alone. It was the first time we travel without the kids. I really cannot remember when was the last time when we were only both of us. So we decided to pamper ourselves and booked a very fancy and relatively expensive Spa hotel in a famous Bulgarian spa destination - Velingrad.
*The hotel review will be a target of another post, because it’s a really nice hotel and deserves special attention. *
Weather was absolutely stunning. When we arrived there was not a lot of snow, but the evening it was snowing really intensive. In the morning everything was white and fluffy and views from the terrace were really beautiful.
We were just looking forward to the breakfast where we hoped to enjoy a really nice coffee, but when we got into the restaurant all we were able to enjoy was some instant coffee…
I have to say that it was not a terrible instant coffee, but we are really not into these kind of coffees. All we were wondering is why a hotel this expensive and this luxury will offer only instant coffee with the breakfast. Suddenly, after I had already had two coffees, I saw the following information on the table:
We both have not initially seen this and the whole situation was funny. So… it’s time to give this espresso a try, right? Although I have “enjoyed” two instants, and my wife had also had one, we decided to order an espresso and give it a try. It was nothing special at all, just like the other instant coffee we had previously.
After all this is a breakfast and they are not supposed to provide you with extraordinary and specialty product, right? It would be definitely very nice, but not necessary. The cafeteria of the hotel, or the lobby bar, are the places where you have to be able to enjoy a really nice coffee. So about noontime we visited the cafeteria too.
The coffee we ordered was a bit more expensive that the Spetema brand which we enjoyed in the restaurant. Sadly, the coffee we received was not that much different from the breakfast one. It’s a bit sad, because the whole hotel is brilliant and it really deserves its 5 star rating. Everything else from the facilities to the staff were just perfect. Just this coffee experience is far from the experience you expect from a 5 star hotel. I don’t think it will be that more expensive for them if they offered a more special and high quality product. I also know that I and my wife are used to specialty coffee, but there are some places where we had coffee and it’s not bad at all and was enjoyed by us. This was not the case though…
So, we are now back to Asenovgrad and soon we will be off towards our home. Have a nice weekend and stay positive! 😉
