There is a short dark road (Brief breviary's poems) // Hay un corto camino oscuro (Poemas de Breve breviario)
I
Here, Saturio
There is a short dark road
Covered with tall leafy trees
They keep me from seeing the blue of the sky.
At the end of the narrow path the veil is drawn back,
A bright light is glimpsed
From which a huge, strong hand reaches out;
It doesn't try to stop me,
It grabs me by the helpless shoulder
And takes me...
...carries me away...
II
I, Saturius
Behind the bend, uncertainty.
I do not see the horizon nor the light to illuminate it.
A narrow path,
And will it lead to a summit?
I do not hear the answer.
Uncertainty remains
Behind the bend in the road:
Can it be rotten?
I'll curiously see where it leads me
The narrow road that gives no
No answer to my anchorite
To my anchorite's gentleness...

I
Aquí, Saturio
Hay un corto camino oscuro
Cubierto con altos árboles frondosos
Me impiden ver el azul del cielo.
Al final del camino estrecho se descorre el velo,
Se vislumbra una luz intensa
De donde sale una mano inmensa, fuerte;
No intenta detenerme,
Me agarra del hombro inerme
Y me lleva...
...me lleva...
II
Yo, Saturio
Detrás del recodo, la incertidumbre.
No veo el horizonte ni la luz que la alumbre.
Camino estrecho,
¿Y llevará a una cumbre?
No oigo la respuesta.
Queda la incertidumbre
Detrás del recodo del camino:
¿Podredumbre?
Veré curioso adónde me lleva
El estrecho camino que no da respuesta
A mi mansedumbre de anacoreta...
