¡Hola, Foodies!
@audiarmisg y
Hello, Foodies!
Today we go with a different post, very, very different, and is that I recently received a very useful gift to continue preparing great recipes and deserved a unboxing with all honors. I had been wanting to buy a waffle maker for a long time, because how unusual that a foodie who spends her time preparing great breakfasts didn't have one! But this was not really on my list of priorities, so as time went by this little desire went down even further on that list and, for a while, I forgot about it.
The truth is that last week I received this amazing birthday gift from my friends
@madefrance,
@audiarmisg and
@bertrayo...the guys gave me a waffle maker! I'm still jumping with excitement as it was a completely unexpected gift and even more so because it's so nice when your friends take into account your interests and the things you really like. I dare say this has been one of the coolest (and most useful) gifts I've been given in a long time, I've never really been given an appliance before so I feel like I've unlocked a whole new level of doñita (ha ha ha ha).
La Nueva Wafflera
The New Waffle Maker
...and as you look at the following three pictures, imagine my excited face when I first opened this box.
This waffle iron is made by Brentwood and has non-stick baking plates, as well as a dial to adjust the temperature. It really is quite a large waffle iron, almost the size of my hand. I'm a little amused that it says in the instruction booklet that it has a short power cord to reduce the risk of tangling or tripping, i.e. a clumsy cord...I'm a bit of a klutz, so thank you for that kind consideration.
When you start using it, the red light comes on first to indicate that the appliance is in a preheating stage, which lasts about 3 minutes. After this, the green light comes on to indicate that it is ready to cook. Its operation and mode of use is really not complex at all.
I didn't wait too many days to use my gift and prepare my first waffles and although basically the mix was the same I used to prepare pancakes, the idea of giving them a different shape excited me. I spread a little bit of oil with the help of a brush, even though the surface is non-stick this helps to prolong their shelf life. Then I adjusted the temperature and waited for it to preheat before placing the mixture.
The mixture, as I mentioned, is the one I always use to prepare my pancakes: 2 eggs, 1/4 cup of oat flour, ground cinnamon to taste, vanilla essence to taste and a little bit of baking powder. Something told me that all the mixture would be just the right amount to fit inside this waffle iron and I certainly wasn't wrong. There were even some small spaces left to fill, but I didn't pay too much attention to this detail because this is the first time using the first waffle iron, so with time I will be adjusting the quantities to make them more aesthetic. Also, I think that this time the mixture was more liquid than usual and that also influences the consistency...anyway, we will keep trying.
One of my favorite things about the waffle iron is the practicality and time savings. I literally have my breakfast ready in less than 10 minutes, as the cooking is quite fast. That will save me quite a bit of time during some mornings, no doubt.
And, of course, if I once made a great recipe book of healthy pancakes, I will now make a great recipe book of healthy waffles. Already the guys have left me some ideas like, for example: yucca, potato and chocolate filled waffles, tempting! So if you have any ideas too, leave them in the comments and I'll just get to work.
