  • No aceptes críticas.

As soon as you find out you're pregnant, emotions are confused: you're happy, sad, worried and anxious at the same time. They are exciting and new progressive changes, but they are also conditioning you for everything else that is to come.

What they don't tell us is how to act after the birth so that we don't go crazy with the whole process of baby adaptation and routines that we already have prior to. In my case, they only told me to sleep while I was pregnant, because then I couldn't do it and many other things that only fed fears more than helped in itself.

That's why I took the time to remember that time that was quite particular for me, since I was not only without the help of any woman at home, as is usually the case in most Latin American households, but also a week after my cesarean I had to get back to work.

At that time I was already generating content from home, so at 7 days I received a call from my boss telling me that I needed to continue producing the scripts for the television program in which I worked, or else I would have to hire another screenwriter.

So it was time to get organized to the extreme, since the father of my son had become unemployed a few months before the child was born, and the weight of the expenses was mostly on my shoulders.

And how did I solve it?

The key in my case was to batch the tasks. When cooking, for example, I didn't prepare the ration for the day but for several days. So I cooked rice for the whole week, cut vegetables and stored them in portions for soups in the freezer, made meatballs or milanesas and froze them in pairs to just defrost and cook.

So if you have a good freezer, this way you will help a lot the first days after the birth with the first meals. And you can even make lasagna (pasticho), grains, meat with vegetables and save for the rations you consider you will use for days.

With the issue of cleanliness, we started to leave the shoes at the entrance of the house, so that with sweeping it would stay clean and leave the complete cleaning for one day a week.

Of course after a cesarean you don't even think about cleaning, that's a matter of others, but if you don't have a lady who helps you, your partner will have it easier. And in the case of being completely alone, with a wet cloth you will have enough for the first months. Everything else can wait a little longer.

The issue of dirty clothes was probably one of the strongest concerns, since I had little space to hang them after washing, so I had to do it daily.

I started sorting the clothes into several baskets, so it would be easier to put them in the washing machine directly and during the baby's naps the clothes were washed. If I had a chance to hang them at the same time it was excellent, otherwise after the washing cycle, I opened the washing machine door and in the next nap I proceeded to hang them.

And with the baby's I had a little bit with special soap and as soon as I changed it, I put it there, so while the washing machine did its thing I washed my little one by hand.

Now some more ...

  • Try to do several things at the same time. When you wake up, after using the bathroom, wash it and you will get out of that step in no time.
  • Fold the clothes while breastfeeding. By placing the baby on a pillow or in the special cushion, you will have free hands to do it.
  • If you take all day, you can take small naps when your baby sleeps. But that if, what the doctors say about sleeping whenever the baby sleeps, really does not apply 100%
  • EAT! Sometimes we forget to eat with everything pending, but we should not overlook it.
  • Dedicate 5 minutes a day to yourself. It is important to take a break from the routine to not lose sight of the goal. In my case when they slept, I took a shower with warm water (while washing clothes, the floor was drying and the work was being sent by mail)
  • If you feel you can not handle everything, DO NOT HESITATE to ask for help. The fact of being a mother does not give us super powers.
  • Do not accept criticism. Each one does what he can as best he can.
  • Postpartum depression exists! If you behave in an unusual way or have atypical ideas, call a friend or go to a specialist.

And above all, enjoy this stage, which seems eternal, but in the blink of an eye, it vanishes and does not return.
