Regalitos sorpresas hechos con material de provecho / Surprise gifts made from recycled materials
My new coworker is definitely a very special woman. Since she arrived at the supermarket, the work environment has changed for the better, and the hours are more bearable, but I was always intrigued that at the end of the day she would take some of the things we usually throw away, such as the strips of mortadella and some pieces of the foam that hold the trays together, shaped like four-pointed stars.
I had never asked her why, but before throwing anything away, I would ask her if she wanted it. If I have learned anything over the years, it is to be reserved in my comments and not to ask questions unless it is strictly necessary, so I was left with the curiosity of seeing her put those things in her shopping bag.
A couple of weeks went by, until one day she showed up with some little key chains shaped like shoes, as a gift from her mom, who is a genius at making crafts out of almost anything. I was touched that she had that kind of consideration for me, because even though we've known each other for some time, our relationship was employee/customer, and our friendship is just beginning.
Although they are key chains, I keep them in my room because I'm afraid they'll get lost on the street or get dirty, but the nice thing is that the surprise didn't end there, because a few days later she arrived with these little boxes, one for me and one for my youngest son, filled not only with good intentions but also with a lot of creativity.
In them, I could see how useful her mother finds the materials she brings home from work, and honestly, I think it's great that beyond her salary, her job also allows her to find things that help her mother with her crafts, which, in addition to entertaining her, have served as therapy to help her cope with the grief of her recent widowhood.
Now I have a new pencil holder at home, which is not only a nice gesture from someone who cares about me, but also proof that sometimes friends come in unexpected ways.
