The magic of the Easter eggs that arrived at home
Although celebrating Easter with chocolate eggs wasn鈥檛 a family tradition for us, ever since we鈥檝e lived in Argentina, my children have always received a chocolate-filled egg on the Sunday that marks the end of Holy Week. Sometimes they鈥檝e been large, and other times modest, but the important thing is seeing the joy on their faces when they get the surprise鈥攅specially since we don鈥檛 eat chocolate every day at home.
Last year and the year before that, I bought them several small ones so I could pace out the chocolate, and I also chose to buy the ones made by small artisans, because by doing so, in addition to giving my children a gift, I was also supporting those small businesses that take advantage of the holiday to earn some extra money鈥攁nd believe me, they鈥檙e every bit as good as the big brands, since in terms of both taste and variety of sizes, they serve the same purpose.
For this year, I thought I wouldn鈥檛 be able to keep up the tradition, since we鈥檝e had a lot of expenses at home and our debts are piling up. But even though they鈥檙e very understanding, my mother鈥檚 heart knew that somehow they鈥檇 get that long-awaited surprise鈥攅specially the little one, who still believes in magic, and I鈥檓 fighting to keep that feeling alive for as long as possible.
And to my surprise, the magic wasn't just for them, but for me too, because when I got to work, I took two small eggs to bring them, and during the morning, my coworker who sells vegetables gave me a huge egg for my son, who helps her tidy up her stall on weekends, and with that, joy filled my heart, since this year, his Easter surprise was guaranteed.
But that wasn鈥檛 all, because when we closed up, my supervisor gave me two more eggs, one for each child, so I ended up coming home with a total of five chocolate eggs, but before handing them over, I built up the anticipation and told them they鈥檇 been given to me so I could eat them myself. Seeing them come closer with the intention of taking them from me, I asked them to take the photo I鈥檓 sharing with you before they could get their hands on them.
This year, against all odds, the magic of Easter was felt at home once again, proving once more that beyond gifts and tradition, as long as we keep believing, the universe takes care of rewarding the good deeds we do and the things we do well every day.
