When Holy Week ends, here in Argentina there’s a tradition of Easter eggs—they’re chocolate eggs, and when you crack them open, there’s a prize inside, sometimes toys, sometimes more candy.
They come in many sizes, but my mom almost always buys the small ones so we don’t eat them all in one day, although I still manage to eat two or three before she takes them away to put in the fridge.
My dad always brings me one of the big ones, which has a toy inside, and this year I got a dragon, so after opening the huge egg, I ate a little bit and then started putting the toy together. First I tried to do it without looking at the instruction sheet, but there were parts I didn’t know how to put together, so I had to look at it anyway.
My mom offered to help me, but I wanted to do it on my own, so I spent quite a while trying to finish it. But as always happens to me, right at the end, putting all the pieces together gets complicated, and I end up needing help.
The good thing about that is that when my mom sees how frustrated I am, she lets me eat a little more chocolate while she finishes putting it all together.
In the end, it turned out to be a cute dragon with blue wings that can move as if it were flying, and it came to keep another red one company—one I’ve had for many years—so I put them together on the dresser in my room so they can keep each other company.
And that was my Throwback Thursday for today—while I was making it, it made me think about how long it’ll be until Easter comes around again so I can have another chocolate egg and find out what surprise is inside.
