Once again I greet you from my small section within this great hive full of super special and valuable people, not only as creators of content, but also for giving us golden opportunities to grow through the experiences they share with us from their points of view and experiences captured in each of the blogs that exist here.

Today I have accepted the invitation of valrodriguez@valrodriguez, and I join the initiative miriannalis@miriannalis, who invites us through three questions, to talk about joy in our lives.

Believe me, although I consider myself a happy woman, I thought long and hard before writing this post, so as not to sound pitiful or like a catharsis, because I have plenty of reasons to be sad!

Only that life and experiences, apart from the help of a wonderful psychiatrist who accompanied me for 3 years officially and many others outside the office (he even continues to do so from beyond the grave) have made me a woman capable of discovering the B side of everything that happens to me.

Living is, in itself, a tremendous gift. The way you do it depends on yourself and on always trying to overcome problems, without getting stuck in the bad feeling they leave us with.

What is the joy of living?

For me it is nothing more than enjoying every second of the day, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem. Since I became a mother, seeing how my baby was evolving was already a reason to be happy.

Of course, it was not always like that, since for many years in my early adulthood, depression was present with me.

Many episodes that are not relevant to remember now, made me feel little and insufficient, and of course, that did not give me any kind of joy.

Because of this I resorted to psychiatric help, and it was at that moment when the change of mentality began in me. Understanding that being the way I am is not bad, and that if others do not accept me as such it is not my problem, marked a before and after. Now everything that made me feel sad and little is a reason to be happy, because it means that I am not just one of the bunch, and that my authenticity is a reason to be happy.

With three suicide attempts (the last one almost victorious), an episode of lewd acts when I was only 11 years old, and a lack of affection that I had always had, were reasons to be bad almost all the time. Now I am grateful to have overcome everything, besides understanding what was the learning in each of those experiences, because not everyone manages to do it and stumble more than once with the same stone.

How do you experience it?

By opening your eyes every morning and being grateful for the miracle of life! My paternal grandmother fell asleep one day and never woke up again. My dad, in his terminal stage of cancer, went to bed one day, and the next day he didn't utter a word, he just agonized until he was gone from this plane.

How can I not be glad I don't have to go through that every day? At some point it will be my turn to go, but in the meantime, I am glad to be able to wake up and move around on my own.

Can you believe that even the simple act of urinating makes me happy? that means my kidneys and other organs are working and I don't have to go through dialysis!

And yes, you may think I'm crazy by now, but for me that's experiencing joy: enjoying every little thing, no matter how small it may seem.

Obviously I'm not the main character in Tangled, who goes around singing while walking through the grass, but I don't allow adverse episodes to rob me of the joy that has been hidden.

For me, being joyful is a decision that goes beyond what happens to me at a particular moment, and for example: when the only uncle I had on my mother's side passed away, I cried and became nostalgic, but remembering all the beautiful things I lived with him gave me back my joy in less than 24 hours.

What makes you feel joyful?

Doing the things I like gives me joy. Singing in the street or on the bus, dancing even if I'm at the mall, eating an ice cream in winter....

Really, after all I've been through, I think that not being happy is wasting minutes of life. I do not regret the not so good things I experienced in my youth, nor the ailments that sometimes affect me more strongly than usual, that I can not change and have made me appreciate much more even the smallest thing.

Those who know me know of my strong character, but that does not mean that joy does not leave me, but rather gives way to my sense of responsibility or the assertive defense of my rights, and one thing does not suppress the other.

Today I can say that I possess and maintain the joy of living, with its ups and downs, but never annulled.

I would like to invite madefrance@madefrance and ylsecardamonet@ylsecardamonet to participate in this very thoughtful initiative.
