This time, I’m sharing one of those family-focused posts I love so much; it covers a truly beautiful event our family had the joy of experiencing this year. As everyone knows, many families in Venezuela have one or more members who have moved abroad, and my extended family is no exception. However, while saying goodbye is painful, it is also heartwarming to welcome these family members back when they come to visit—or, better yet, when they decide to return for good. In our case, we were delighted to welcome my cousin, who lives in Spain, for a visit. The clever way she chose to see everyone at once—family and friends alike—was by organizing a mass and a gathering at her old school.
En esta ocasión traigo de esos post familiares que tanto me gustan, y es que este fue un acontecimiento muy bonito para nuestra familia que tuvimos la dicha de vivir este año, como todos saben muchas familias en Venezuela tienen uno o varios miembros que se han marchado al extranjero, y mi familia extendida no es la excepción, sin embargo a pesar de que duele decir adiós también es reconfortante recibir de vuelta a estos miembros de la familia cuando vienen a visitarnos o, mejor aun, cuando deciden volver definitivamente. En nuestro caso estábamos felices de recibir de visita a mi prima que vive en España. La manera astuta que ella eligió para vernos a todos de una vez (incluyendo familia y amigos) fue organizar una misa y una reunión en su antiguo colegio.
Her former school is Don Bosco—a rather large institution—where she formed lasting friendships, including with her best friend from their days in the school's show band and theater troupe; he is now a priest and officiated the lovely mass held that day. After leaving the school chapel, we headed to the library to gather, chat, and share the food we had brought along. It was wonderful to see everyone together, to talk with my cousin, and to revisit a place I hadn't seen in a long time; my sister attended school there, and we used to go for the band's performances (since she was a member) as well as for family Sundays.
Su antiguo colegio es el Don Bosco, el cuál es bastante grande, allí ella dejó grandes amistades, incluyendo a su mejor amigo de los tiempos en que ambos estaban en la banda show del colegio y el grupo de teatro, él hoy en día es sacerdote y fue quien ofició la misa de ese día la cual estuvo muy bonita. Al salir del templo del colegio nos dirigimos hacia la biblioteca y allí nos reunimos para conversar y compartir algunos alimentos que llevamos. Fue grato vernos a todos allí reunidos, conversar con mi prima y también volver a ver ese lugar al que yo tenía tiempo que no veía, pues allí estudió mi hermana y nosotros solíamos ir para las presentaciones de la banda (ya que mi hermana era miembro) y también para los domingos familiares.
Of course, there was no shortage of group photos where we had to contort ourselves just to get everyone in the frame, haha 😄—and that was even with some family members missing who couldn't make it to the mass and the gathering. We truly had a wonderful time together; we had fun, laughed, reminisced about the old days, walked around the school to see how much it had changed over time, and thanked God for the blessing of seeing each other again—especially my cousin, whom we hadn't seen in the longest time.
Desde luego no faltaron las fotos grupales donde tuvimos que hacer maromas para poder salir todos en cuadro jaja 😄,y eso que aún faltaron familiares que no pudieron asistir a la misa y a la reunión, de verdad que la pasamos muy bien juntos, nos divertimos, nos reímos, recordamos viejos tiempos, recorrimos el colegio para comprobar cuanto había cambiado con el paso del tiempo y agradecimos a Dios por la bendición de volvernos a ver, sobre todo de volver a ver a mi prima que es a quién teníamos más tiempo sin ver.
We also couldn't miss out on photos with the fun uncle of the family (my mom's younger brother); he’s always so funny, and his comments never fail to make us burst out laughing. In this simple photo, you can catch a glimpse of his playful personality—haha, just look at him making silly faces.
Tampoco podían faltar las fotos con el tío divertido de la familia, (el hermano menor de mi mamá) él siempre suele ser muy gracioso, sus comentarios siempre nos arrancan una carcajada, y en la simple foto pueden ver un ápice de su personalidad tan jocosa jaja pues allí está haciendo muecas.
