Movie Review: Citation - When power becomes a weapon.

I watched Kunle Afolayan’s Citation some times ago, and honestly, this is one of those movies that leaves you thinking long after the credits roll. I still have it saved my files.

The movie follows Moremi, a brilliant postgraduate student who finds herself in a difficult situation after a professor attempts to sexually exploit her. What makes the story particularly powerful is the imbalance of power between a student and someone who has authority over her academic future.

What I loved about Citation is that it doesn't treat sexual harassment as just a personal issue. It shows how power, fear, reputation and silence can make it difficult for victims to speak up.

Temi Otedola, making her acting debut as Moremi, did a commendable job. Jimmy Jean-Louis also played the role of the manipulative professor convincingly.

That said, I felt the movie was a little too long. At some points, the story moved slower than necessary, and a few scenes could have been shortened without losing the message.

But beyond its entertainment value, Citation raises an important question:

What happens when the person abusing their power is someone who can influence your future?

For me, that's where the movie truly hits home.

It is a story about courage, consent, power, justice and speaking up even when the odds seem to be against you.

Overall, citation is a reminder that sometimes, finding your voice is the first step toward finding justice.
