This morning I awoke to an overcast day and temperatures a great deal cooler than the last few days.
As I sat and had my morning coffee, I looked outside to see a rainbow over Table Mountain - what a beautiful sight to see - everything was still and quiet and there was a sense of peace around me.
A lovely shower of rain came down to refresh my plants - I could almost feel their pleasure as the dust was washed off the leaves.
The peace did not last for long as the world around me woke up - well, it is the count down to Christmas and everyone wants to do that last bit of shopping for presents and all want to start early to avoid the traffic.
I also had to join the throng of humanity and so headed out to the shops.
However, I was determined to try and hang on to the peace that had started my day and so I slowed down my walk and enjoyed the time searching for my last present - and surprise, surprise, I found it in the first shop that I went into.
What a delight it was to spend the rest of my time just browsing and not looking like so many that passed me in a frantic hurry!
On my way back I decided to pop into the nearby garden center and pick up some more sweet basil.
Again, everything was peaceful as I walked around admiring all the beauty around me.
The staff were busy watering the plants and everything smelt sweet.
When I got back, I planted out my basil and watered them.
During this time , the sound of a chain saw started up - breaking into my peace.
Then I saw that across the way from me they were cutting down trees - I think they feel that they may be a fire hazard during the hot summer months, but this made me feel so sad.
As they crashed to the ground, I felt awful - they have been there for years providing much needed shade for the guinea fowls that come there every day and rest beneath them.
Now gone.
