During the day, we try to keep ourselves busy. We smile, talk, work, study, and act as if things are fine. We tell ourselves that everything is fine because trying to explain what is happening inside us seems harder than remaining silent.
But when night falls and everything gets quiet, there is nowhere to run or hide.
The thoughts we tried to drown out during the day come back again, and the pain we tried to suppress during the day resurfaces as well.
Sometimes, all we can do is lie in our beds, stare at the ceiling, and cry. Crying at night can seem like the only way to vent what we can't put into words. Our tears can carry everything we are too scared to speak: "I'm tired.
I'm hurting.
I'm alone. I don't know how much longer I can keep pretending that I'm okay." Crying does not mean we are weak. Sometimes, it's just the heart letting go of what it can no longer hold.
Silence is not always a bad thing. It can allow us time to think, breathe, and process our emotions. But when we keep everything bottled up for so long, silence can become like a cage. We may start to believe that no one cares, that no one understands and that we have to face each battle alone.
But we were never meant to carry all our pain alone. It is okay to be vulnerable. It is okay to admit we are exhausted.
It is okay to reach out and say, "I'm not okay."
Asking someone to listen to us does not make us weak; in fact, it might be one of the bravest things we can do.
There will be nights when our tears will be the only thing that understands us. But a painful night is not the whole story of our lives. The silence may be deep, and the pain may feel endless, but neither has to last forever. Sometimes, simply making it through the night is already a kind of quiet courage-and tomorrow gives us a new day to start again.
