I personally haven't had it done to me before, but I know that scamming can be very painful. Just consider this: you are trying to make a living and make money to help your family, and then somebody takes all your money. That money could have been spent on groceries, utilities or even set aside for retirement. It would also ruin your faith in humanity.
I think scammers play on peoples' emotions. They lure you in with the promise of easy money, tell you about a great deal, or pose as someone who is in dire need of assistance. They sometimes sound convincing, and it's easy to be duped.
For this reason I think we should always be cautious when engaging with strangers on the internet. Before clicking any links we don't recognise, transferring money or giving out our personal information, we should always check the facts first. Never give out passwords or one-time PINs to anyone. If an offer seems too good to be true, it is worth researching first rather than rushing into it.
I have never been scammed myself but I know that no one is safe from other unscrupulous people. If we keep our wits about us, we can potentially avoid being the next victims.
When I see any scam, I will stay cool, I will collect evidence and I will make a complaint. I will also alert others about it to ensure their safety.
The best defence that I've found against scams is knowledge and wisdom. We're not able to change the dishonest behaviors of the scammers, but we can make our own decisions to be vigilant with the offers that come through our door.
Let's keep in mind: To save our money, we must first save our confidence. Think before you click. Crosscheck before you believe. Be vigilant.
