Hello lovely people

These are the last few updates before you will all need tissues. My test readers had already torn into me about what is to come.

Enjoy until then!

Shareik had sat for some time considering the options he had. He knew the Fell Dragon would be making her move soon, and he needed to protect the final players in the game. There were so few after she had rampaged unchecked for centuries. She had silently sniped so many of his species he was surprised no one had managed to figure out who was doing it. By the time they had an inkling, it was far too late. They had dwindled to a handful. However, though they weren’t enough in numbers to fulfil a favour, they were enough to seal the Dragon back, as long as they didn’t make a mistake.

Shareik sighed. He didn’t want her sealed again. He wanted her free, but in order to do that, he would need to sacrifice one of his people. He cast his eye on Matta as he spoke with the Saith queen. It would be easy to sacrifice the boy, and he would likely volunteer, but he couldn’t allow it. It had been too many years, and he was tired of carrying this sin on his soul.

He could feel that the Fell Dragon had returned to sleep, but she wasn’t sleeping as deeply as she had in the cage. She had been free for almost two years now, and he had no idea how she was combating the madness as the universe was against her freedom.

He felt the blood drain from his face when he realised that the madness hadn’t set in like it had last time because perhaps the universe wasn’t against her being free. After learning what the Dekai had done to the queen of the Saith, he could understand where the imbalance had come in. Yet, she was only one person, why would the universe have caused an imbalance around her?

He allowed his eyes to move to the large Saith standing behind the queen. This man was outside of his time, yet he fitted well with the queen’s energy. In this lifetime, the two had been partners and lovers. Shareik looked deeper into their strings of fate and found the strands that had been destroyed. The giant’s life in this time had been cut short due to interference, interference which hadn’t happened in the other’s life. The interference allowed the queen to survive.

The Heavenly concentrated on the giant, he too, had fate strands that were cut short before their time. He had been meant to live for decades with his wife, siring at least another two sons and a daughter. Yet, each of those fates had been broken. The source of the disruption to his life was Dekai interference, particularly Sedeath’s. Had he not brought the child Jethron to any of the timelines, he would not have brought the wrath of the race upon the Saith.

Shareik looked over to where Sedeath was arguing with something Saasha had said. The aid should have entered the afterlife by now, but he had strongly attached to Jethron upon his birth due to the old Dekai King wanting more glory for his family. More interference in a universe that was slowly tipping beyond balance.

Yet, he knew the Dekai weren’t the only ones at fault. The Heavenly were heavily dependent on the Fell Dragon's existence. They too, were balance keepers and were meant to keep everything in balance. They had been the theoretical Dragon until the Ancient Dekai gave life to the first physical body. They wanted to physically exist in the universe they were overseeing. However, by them wanting a physical body created, helping where they could, they failed to calculate that the Ancient Dekai’s needs poisoned the mind of the beast they had created. If the Fell Dragon fell, then so would they.

Shareik sneered to himself. Millenia was a long time to inhabit a body, and he was tired. As tired, as he knew the Fell Dragon was. She was killing them for a purpose, but he wasn’t sure if she knew why yet or if it was something she was doing haphazardly.

He needed to protect Matta from what was coming, but there was only one way to do that. He had to ensure that Saita survived. Out of all the strings of fate he could see, there was only way she would survive. However, he only saw up to where the branch was to occur, not beyond it, and he already knew why.

The Fell Dragon would take his life around the same time. He looked around the table at all those present. Many of their lives would also end around about the same time, while others thrived. He wanted to second guess himself, but the alternatives would result in far more death and heartache.

He knew what he needed to do, and his mind was already made up. It would require sacrifice, one of which would be his own life, but this would bring balance and remove those who shouldn’t be here. Now, he just needed to figure out how he was going to do what he needed to without Matta figuring it out. The young Heavenly was yet to see the strings of fate, but Shareik knew he was close to learning.

“Your Majesty.” Interrupted Shareik.

He could see how Saasha tensed at him interrupting her meeting, but he couldn’t deal with her irritation at this moment.

“With the algorithm developed by the human prince, I believe I can determine when next the Wolven will open the veil to release the Fell Dragon.”

The Saith queen frowned and indicated that he could speak his mind.

“For a long time, there were specific corridors we could walk to avoid the Wolven. However, as the Fell Dragon got stronger, the creatures got into those corridors, making it suicide for us to travel through them. However, if I know where a Wolven may be, I may be able to track where the Fell Dragon is by using our safety corridors.”

The large Saith bent down to whisper in the queen’s ear. He watched as the queen’s look changed to one of distrust. She whispered back to the giant. He then bowed and excused himself from the meeting. It was highly likely that the queen had asked him to go ask advice from their Dekai child in another meeting.

“I thought you could no longer travel the corridors.” Said the queen.

“We prefer not to, but it doesn’t mean we can’t.”

“It’ll be dangerous, Master. Allow me to do it.” Said Matta.

Shareik waved his comment away, he already knew how to deal with this situation.

“You know not the pockets I will need to travel, and I’d prefer you to be here, as you know how to get to the cage. Once we can locate and clear out the Wolven, it’ll be easier to get to the cage and put the dragon back.”

He wasn’t sure if Matta believed what he said, but to his credit, the boy remained silent. The queen seemed to think this over and turned to speak to her eldest son. This boy’s fate thread was strong. He would continue this beyond the end of Shareik, and he was happy that the boy was at the queen’s side now.

After speaking quietly with each other for a few minutes, Saasha looked up and said, “Fine, it’s not like I can stop you. However, the algorithm isn’t here, as it’s still being tested. You will need to go to the humans.”

Shareik nodded his head. This was exactly what he wanted. It would give him enough time to put the last pieces in their various places. It was a long shot, but if it worked, then his sacrifice would be worth it.

He got to his feet and indicated that Matta should join him.

“I will take my leave now, Your Majesty.” He said with a bow.

He noted Saasha rolling her eye before she waved him off. She had learned by now that there was no use in trying to make him respect her in her own court. While most of their power was diminished, Shareik was still able to travel as needed using other means. Once he was out of the sight of those in the meeting, he pulled Matta aside and stuffed something in his hand.

“Take that to the Dragon’s son. Tell him that he needs to keep it on his person at all times.”

Matta made to look at what Shareik had given him, but the old man stopped him.

“Matta now is the time that you trust me and do as I say.”

The young man looked unsure but eventually nodded his head and teleported to where he needed to go. Shareik softly muttered, “Goodbye, Matta.”
