SUNDAY WALK OF A FLOWERY UMBRELLA

The trees in the park were so lush that they prevented the sun's rays from reaching the earth to warm it. The interweaving of their branches formed a natural canopy, under which one could breathe in and out. The afternoon was dressed for Sunday. Everything looked clear and resplendent. The birds, with their trills, were in charge of the music. The harmony of nature was spreading like an invisible mantle.

A huge umbrella, decorated with rainbow-colored flowers, carried a woman for a walk. The lady was so thin that if you didn't look at her from the right angle, you couldn't make her out. The umbrella walked slowly, captivating butterflies, which fluttered disgruntled, over the flowers drawn on the fabric. A blue-green hummingbird wanted to join in the invitation, but perceiving the angry murmur of the butterflies, it preferred to give rest to its restless wings, landing on the shoulder-branch of the passer-by.

Suddenly, as it happens in reality, a fantasy rain began to fall, which seemed to be staged for a movie scene. Thick drops hit the drawn flowers, enhancing the brightness of their colors. The spaces of silence, which at the beginning were heard between one drop and another, became shorter and shorter, until they disappeared, soaked by the copious downpour. Without knowing when, the woman's hair was adorned with butterflies, which found refuge under the umbrella. The impatient hummingbird had already left by the time the downpour began to fall.

The flowery umbrella felt happy. It always happened to him, when under its fabric, it sheltered those who wanted to hide from the rain or the sun. From the hand to the tail, he would show his mood, spinning around in a joyful way.

Then a wind blew so hard that the umbrella flew away, taking the woman and the butterflies with it. It soared, skirting the branches of the trees, until it reached the open sky. Once free, it took shelter above the clouds.

The downpour ended as suddenly as it began. In summer, the rain was usually in a hurry. It didn't stay in the same place for long. It left with the wind on a visit to other places. The umbrella was not noticed because it was in the sky. The hummingbird went to look for it, to let it know that it had stopped raining on the ground.

Then it dropped from the clouds and began to fall with a gentle swagger. On the way down, he mingled with kites dancing in the sky, enjoying the dance for a while. When he was closer to the ground, he caught sight of himself, returning with the butterflies but without the lady. It could have happened that, because she was so light, she remained floating among cotton wool.

The garden umbrella had a soft landing on the wet grass. The butterflies flew in stampede, thirsty for the nectar of real flowers. Life is too short to waste it, dazzled by brightly colored mirages.

The umbrella, waiting patiently in the freshly washed green, to pick-up another person and carry her home, protected under her concave, flowery raincoat.
