Turkey for Dayz... it's not just a catchy title. I have literally been eating turkey for Days. Every day for a week in fact. Thanksgiving was last weekend and I cooked a big meal on Saturday Oct 7th. The bird was over 14lbs so there were quite a bit of leftovers by the end of the meal. I ate more turkey the next day on Sunday, pretty much a full turkey dinner with everything that I had eaten the night before.
Then on Monday we went to my wifes parents house and ate another full on Thanksgiving dinner that was the same food with some minor variations.
It was a big family event as you can see by the table. It needed two tables put together to fit everyone. The food was really good and the turkey was cooked great and ended up being delicious.
I actually managed to take a photo of it just to prove it to you. This turkey was even larger than the one that I cooked. It was probably close to 20lbs or so, I'm guessing. It may have even been more?
So anyway, that was my second third turkey dinner. I ate turkey sandwiches for lunch at work for two days (Tuesday and Wednesday) and then Tuesday evening I made turkey soup with some more of the leftovers.
I ate the soup those two days (Tuesday and Wednesday) and there was still some leftover. Above is a photo of what was left on Wednesday. I couldn't eat it a third day so on Thursday I decided to try something different. I still had an entire half of a turkey breast left so I decided to roast that with some shallots, leeks and garlic.
Ingredients
• Turkey breast
• Shallots
• Leeks
• Garlic
• chicken broth
• White wine
• Herbs de Provence
• Thyme
I started by cooking the vegetables until they were soft.
Then I added a little white wine leftover from our previous meal and some of the leftover broth from the soup I made.
I added herbs of Provence and thyme and cooked everything in the oven to bring it all together and to heat up the breast. This also crisped up the skin again.
I made the meal kind of like something I would find in France. Home style French cooking, the way I associate it, is generally a meat and vegetables served in a nice broth or gravy. Examples would be Coq au Vin and Beef bourguignon, and there are various fowl dishes that are served in a white wine sauce, I just dont know the names of them.
This meal was actually quite good and I ended up eating that again the next day - on Friday.
For round two I added green beans, just to change it up a bit...
So all in all, I have literally been eating turkey for an entire week now and there is actually still more turkey leftover! There's a 1/4 of that breast left and still some more dark meat that I couldn't get around to. But, I can't fucking do it anymore. I can't eat anymore turkey! I've actually resorted to feeding the remaining meat to our dog just because it feels wrong to waste it. Luckily he is still enjoying it. I'm writing this post on Saturday though it wont be published today, but as of now, I am done eating turkey!!!
