Lluvia, mar y flores para Camilo Cienfuegos./Rain, sea, and flowers for Camilo Cienfuegos.
Hola, amigos Hive!
Hello, Hive friends! The day dawned cloudy and rainy once again, but that didn’t stop us—just as we do every October 28th—from heading to the sea with the children to cast flowers for Camilo Cienfuegos.
Every October 28th, the people of Cuba remember the "Hero of Yaguajay" with great affection. Since our school is located in a coastal community, we have the privilege of being able to take the children directly to the beach to carry out this beautiful tradition. The children participate in this event with great enthusiasm—especially those doing so for the first time. From early on, they arrive carrying flowers of various colors, gathered from gardens throughout the community. After a short, moving ceremony—featuring poetry recitals and songs dedicated to Camilo—we head to the shoreline to place the flowers in the water.
Despite today’s rain, the children’s energy warmed the morning; they chose to leave their homes to come to school and—once the rain eased—head to the seaside to pay tribute to the man with the broad smile and the wide-brimmed hat.
