Hello, my friends. What a pleasure to greet you again and to return to this community. I hope everyone is enjoying an excellent day.

It seems like yesterday when my Melissa was walking around the house with her preschool or college backpack, and look at her now, over there in Tapachula, Mexico, a full-grown woman of her own home, cooking, cleaning, washing. She left with her boyfriend, yes, the same one she's been with for years, and even though my heart broke when I saw her get on that plane, today I couldn't be prouder.

I call her almost every day, and she sends me screenshots, she tells me all sorts of things from over there that leave me with my mouth hanging open. She says that she and her boyfriend are working hard, that they get up early, that the sun over there is blazing hot, but that work comes first. "Mommy, here you fight for your future tooth and nail," she told me the other day, and I answered: "My love, you two are warriors, never forget that."

Not long ago they bought a portable closet to hang their clothes. A portable closet, would you listen to that! The girl showed it to me on a video call, all excited, and I laughed until tears came out of my eyes. "Mommy, now we have somewhere to put our decent clothes," she told me. And I thought: thank God, my daughter organizing her little home like a proper lady. Small things, but for her it's a whole world.

And speaking of changes, she got a makeover and I almost didn't recognize her. She cut her hair, and when I saw her on camera I told her: "My girl, you're more beautiful than ever, my love." She laughed and told me that there are good hair salons over there too, and that she treated herself because she deserved it. And how could she not deserve it, when she spends the whole day working!

Another thing that truly makes me happy is Roco. That dog has become the child of the two of them. They send me photos and videos all the time—Roco eating, Roco sleeping, Roco with his new little bed. "Mommy, Roco is our son," they tell me, and I say to them: "Well, that way you're practicing for when a real child comes along." But the truth is that little dog has given them a companionship they couldn't even imagine. Over there so far away, with no family nearby, a little animal like that is a blessing.

And to top it all off, just recently they told me they went to the movies to celebrate another anniversary of being together. They sent me the little photo with the popcorn, ice cream, and I cried like a baby. "Mommy, here we celebrate too," Melissa told me, and I answered: "My girl, wherever you are, if there's love, there's a celebration."

She tells me she's happy. That she's grateful for life, for work, for her boyfriend, for Roco, for everything. And I, from here, with my heart tight but content, tell her to keep moving forward, that her mother blesses her every day. Because a Cuban mother suffers when a child leaves, but she suffers even more if that child stays behind without dreaming. And my Melissa is dreaming over there in Tapachula, with her portable closet, her new hair, and her Roco barking happily. It's going on almost two years without hugging her, but I'm sure that hug will come sooner rather than later.
