Este mi茅rcoles 30 de julio, se realiz贸 en la sala Villena de la UNEAC habanera, la premiaci贸n del concurso literario "Premio David" 2025.
Este premio, uno de los m谩s importantes del pa铆s, lleva por nombre el seud贸nimo que utilizara, en nuestras luchas clandestinas, el m谩rtir Frank Pa铆s.
Cuando supe que mi amigo Pedro hab铆a ganado en la categor铆a de cuento, sent铆 una inmensa alegr铆a. Que orgullo ser amiga de un joven talentoso y dedicado a las letras como lo es 茅l. Adem谩s de escritor, Pedro es un excelente editor.
Pedro Luis Azcuy Flores es graduado de uno de los Cursos de T茅cnicas Narrativas del prestigioso Centro de Formaci贸n Literaria Onelio Jorge Cardoso, quien fuera bautizado con toda justeza como nuestro Cuentero Mayor.
Pedro es un fuera de serie, un "tipo" sencillo y campechano, amante del yoga y la lectura. Su narrativa es fluida y convincente, as铆 lo vi siempre, desde la primera vez que le铆 algo escrito por 茅l.
Este premio lo gan贸 con un cuaderno de cuentos titulado "Leaving La Habana", que ser谩 publicado y puesto a disposici贸n de quienes desen leerlo. Seg煤n el jurado, la decisi贸n fue un谩nime, no hubo dudas de que era la mejor obra presentada.
A la premiaci贸n, Pedro llev贸 a su abuela y a su padre, ambos contentos y orgullosos por su logro. Cuenta la abuela del galardonado, que hac铆a mucho tiempo no sal铆a de la casa por sus achaques, pero esto no se lo pod铆a perder.
All铆 me encontr茅 con viejos amigos y conocidos, todos relacionados de alguna forma con el mundo de la literatura. El evento fue amenizado por un joven pianista que nos deleit贸 con varios temas y hubo hasta un brindis con vino y un delicioso buffet.
Despu茅s de los minutos de fama, las fotos y las entrevistas, Pedro, que acostumbra a vestir ligero, se quit贸 la inc贸moda camisa y se qued贸 en su acostumbrada camiseta.
Luego nos sentamos a compartir un rato su triunfo entre risas y con unas buenas jarras de 馃嵑.
When a Friend Wins a Literary Award
Hello, my friends. It's a pleasure to greet you. Today I'm especially thrilled and happy for a friend of mine.
This past Wednesday, July 30th, the award ceremony for the 2025 "Premio David" literary contest took place in the Villena Hall of Havana's UNEAC (National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba).
This award, one of the most important in the country, bears the name of the pseudonym used by the martyr Frank Pa铆s during our clandestine struggles.
When I found out that my friend Pedro had won in the short story category, I felt immense joy. How proud I am to be friends with a talented young man dedicated to literature like he is. Besides being a writer, Pedro is an excellent editor.
Pedro Luis Azcuy Flores is a graduate of one of the Narrative Techniques Courses at the prestigious Onelio Jorge Cardoso Literary Training Center, who was very rightly dubbed our Master Storyteller.
Pedro is exceptional, a simple and easygoing guy, a lover of yoga and reading. His narrative is fluid and convincing; that's how I always saw it, from the very first time I read something he wrote.
He won this award with a collection of short stories titled "Leaving La Habana," which will be published and made available to those who wish to read it.
According to the jury, the decision was unanimous; there was no doubt it was the best work submitted.
Pedro brought his grandmother and his father to the award ceremony, both happy and proud of his achievement. The award winner's grandmother recounts that she hadn't left the house in a long time due to her ailments, but she couldn't miss this.
The event was livened up by a young pianist who treated us to several pieces, and there was even a toast with wine and a delicious buffet.
After the moments of fame, photos, and interviews, Pedro, who usually dresses lightly, took off his uncomfortable shirt and stayed in his usual t-shirt.
Then we sat down to share his triumph for a while with laughter and some good pitchers of 馃嵑.
